Description of Position

Part-Time Positions Available at $25.00 an Hour

Responsible for the instruction of Adult Basic Education and ESL– (along with technology training, career, and college prep) in a learning center and/or classroom setting. Provides reading, writing, social studies, math, science, and citizenship instruction to students 16 and older and not enrolled in school.

Duties include teaching face-to-face classes, planning lessons, monitoring and assessing student progress on an ongoing basis, participating in the intake process, and collecting, recording, and reporting all necessary information related to students in a timely manner. Work with Adult Basic Education program staff to maintain and enhance the program's services throughout Yavapai County. Maintain an effective working relationship with staff, students, the general public, and grant agencies. This position reports to the GED Coordinator and is contingent on annual state and federal grant funding.

Regular duties include:
  • Teaches multi-level mathematics, reading, writing, social studies, science, and citizenship
to adults who are functioning below the 12th-grade level
  • Creates and develops curricula, lesson plans, and teaching materials to aid students in
developing skills and confidence in specific content areas
  • Integrates computer-aided instruction into lessons as appropriate
  • Monitors and assesses students' progress on a regular basis
  • Collects, records and reports all necessary information related to students in a timely
manner
  • Participates in staff meetings
  • Participates in professional development and learning as appropriate to the position
  • Actively participates in planning to assure participants' needs are effectively addressed

Minimum Expectations & Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Adult Education or related field.
Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, an AZ Adult Education Teacher Certification.
Proficient in MS Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook Express) with strong Excel skills.
Excellent Written and Verbal Communication Skills.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and occasional weekend hours.
Ability to attend required professional development (some out-of-town travel).
Skilled in accuracy and attention to detail for records purposes.
Regular attendance is an essential job function as it demonstrates dependability towards the performance of job duties.


Preferred Skills & Abilities

Master's degree in Adult Education, TESOL, or related field
Working knowledge of the AZDE (Arizona Department of Education) AES (Adult Education
Services) assessment requirements, data collections, and state standards for teaching
Experience administering TABE and TABE CLAS E assessments
Professional experience in a community college/higher education work environment
Experience working with adults learners, preferably in a community college/higher
education setting
Technological fluency
Demonstrated ability to work independently
Good communication skills, both in-person and electronic
Ability to work cooperatively with others
