Academic and Career Success Coach
Position Overview:
Penn State Abington seeks engaging and dynamic candidates to fill a newly created position of Academic and Career Success Coach. This position will work with Career and Professional Development and The Center for Student Achievement to deliver holistic services that facilitate student success in and out of the classroom. The coach will work with students individually to develop personalized success plans for academic, career, and general life skills. The coach will also develop workshops for both departments, as well as other collaborative opportunities that engage faculty, student organizations, and other members of the campus community.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide individual coaching for students on topics of time management, study skills, organizational skills, major and career exploration, internship and job search, professional development, graduate school planning, employer and alumni engagement
- Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, and online resources for students on a range of academic, career, general life skills success topics
- Provide administrative support for The Center for Student Achievement and associated programming (Pathway to Success: Summer Start and Lion Guidez Peer Mentoring Program)
- Serve as a liaison to academic departments and related services
- Perform targeted outreach and interact directly with at-risk students, connecting them with resources to navigate barriers to completion
- Maintain case notes that track student progress, assessment results, and coaching goals
- Perform industry research and make recommendations for process improvements in line with industry best practices
- Lead/coordinate special projects or initiatives as assigned
Successful candidates will possess:
- A Master's degree (preferred) in counseling or a related discipline, 1+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of career and student development theories, research and practices, and recruiting trends
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills
- Innovation and creativity in program development
- Proven presentation, group facilitation, and teaching skills
- Extensive ability to collaborate and develop relationships with a wide range of constituents
- Ability to work with a diverse student population
- Experience with outcomes assessment, learning outcomes, and evaluation strategies
- Outstanding teamwork abilities
- Development of metrics and methods for continuous improvement of processes, goals, and strategies
- Ability to work some evening or weekend hours
