Responsible for the management and reporting of financial data of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home and its Affiliates. Supervises the Receptionist staff. Works closely with the Vice President of Finance/CFO on monthly board reports, annual audits, tax returns, and cost reports.

Accounting Duties

  • Provide accurate and timely monthly financial statements to the Vice President of Finance/CFO for Good Shepherd Lutheran Home and its Affiliates.
    • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
    • Prepares and maintains proper documentation for monthly journal entries
    • Monthly reconciliation of Resident Trust Software.
    • Maintain monthly financial reports such as, but not limited to, case mix worksheets, revenue tie-outs, and other work papers necessary to prepare the monthly financial statements.
    • Complete and maintain documentation for bank transfers.
  • Assist with the year-end audit preparation.
  • Create required bond compliance reports, including but not limited to quarterly financial reporting, insurance compliance certificates, budget reporting, and annual certification of audit reports.
  • Assist with annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting, Form 990 tax work papers, and other reports required by the State and Federal government.
  • Assist with annual budget preparation.
  • File and remit Minnesota Sales Tax as required.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
  • Create Minnesota ST3 Form as required by Good Shepherd vendors.
  • Complete annual business filings for the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.


Supervisory Duties

  • Schedule and supervise receptionist staff.
  • Maintain time and attendance system, including but not limited to approving timesheets, enter missed punches and coordinate corrections with Receptionists.
  • Responsible for hiring, orientating, training, and education for Receptionist staff.
  • Evaluates & completes evaluation, disciplining, recognizing and follow up on Receptionist staff performance in a timely fashion. Delegates and coaches staff on an ongoing basis.

General Duties

  • Demonstrates participation in staff meetings and educational and safety programs, including all mandatory Facility in-services. Identifies and seeks opportunities for self-growth, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates confidentiality within the work unity and throughout Good Shepherd.
  • Works with the Social Security Administration for Good Shepherd Lutheran Home to be representative payee when necessary.
  • Maintain room and board and ancillary pricing in the accounting software.
  • Maintain administration of MN-ITS and insurance websites.
  • Serves as backup to the Accounts Receivable Coordinators to work with insurance companies, social service department, nursing department, and accounts receivable coordinator for preauthorization for admissions anywhere on Good Shepherd Campus.
  • Serves as backup to the Accounts Payable and Treasury Coordinators.


  • Two to three years of experience in accounting and/or business office management.
  • Understanding of accounting rules including General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to demonstrate an enhanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft application is required.
  • Experience with accounting software, preferably Point Click Care, is required. However, experience with Quickbooks, Sage Business, Oracle Net Suite, or other accounting software will be considered.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with various departments
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of HUD accounting regulations is also a plus.


Education:

  • Two-year degree in Accounting or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
