The Department of Corrections is seeking highly motivated, patient-centered, and qualified individuals for the position of Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to implement the Hepatitis C Test & Treat Program based at the Washington Corrections Center (WCC) located in Shelton, WA, but includes travel to Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW) located in Gig Harbor, WA. This program supports national and state hepatitis C elimination efforts. This announcement will be used to fill 1 full-time, permanent position.

Schedule
  • Hours are flexible based on the mutual agreement of the hire and the facility
Under the clinical supervision of the Director of the Hepatitis C Test & Treat Program, this position will evaluate and manage the treatment of individuals with chronic hepatitis C entering the prison system as part of the Hepatitis Test & Treat Program. This involves diagnosing, counseling, evaluating, treating and monitoring patients at the prison reception centers. The position is located at WCC, but will require some travel to Gig Harbor to help manage patients at WCCW. The position will also help manage and coordinate the Program as assigned, including maintaining, tracking, and organizing health care data related to hepatitis C.

Duties

  • Provide counseling and care in-person or occasionally by video for patients at WCC and WCCW with suspected or diagnosed hepatitis C infection
  • Ensure continuity of care
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic laboratory tests and imaging studies
  • Perform Fibroscans as indicated for clinical evaluation (On-the-job training will be available as needed)
  • Prescribe medications including controlled substances as indicated
  • Provide medical and technical assistance to other health care personnel as required
  • Database management to help track, evaluate and analyze hepatitis C screening, diagnosis, treatment and clinical outcomes of the DOC Hepatitis C Test & Treat Program
  • Help present the data and educate clinical staff and external stakeholders
  • Collaborate with staff from DOC and the Department of Health (DOH)
  • Help maintain and implement the DOC Hepatitis C protocol
  • Participate and help lead, as needed, the weekly Hepatitis C Care Review Committee
  • Protect the confidentiality of health records
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse AND current certification from an approved national certification program (such as American Nursing Association) verifying completion of an advanced formal education program in the area of specialty AND possession of a current license designated as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner in the state of Washington.
  • Must hold unrestricted license to practice as an advanced practice practitioner and prescribe scheduled drugs Licensure (RN, ARNP) must be valid and continuously unrestricted.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in the field viral hepatitis or liver disease
  • A Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or statistics
  • Experience in correctional medicine practice
  • Certification or experience in conducting Fibroscans
