Advising Generalist - Courseview at Mason Job at Sinclair Community College
Provide enrollment and advising services to prospective students in the areas of admission, registration, financial aid, academic advising, and other college services. Participant in outreach activities and completion activities to attract and retain students. Provides on-going academic advising and support to students as they progress through program completion.
The Advising Generalist is responsible for assisting current and prospective students at Sinclair’s Courseview campus to support student matriculation. The generalist will recruit, advise and provide timely assistance regarding admission, registration, financial aid, bursar, and general college information to the surrounding community, parents, and students. Participation in occasional evening and weekend events is expected, to support recruitment and community engagement.

The minimum annual salary for this position is $54,317.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support current and prospective student in their academic success using a Generalist advising model
- Assist students in determining the appropriate curricular pathway and class schedule, maintain fidelity and high standards with academic department and college policies, advise students regarding financial aid-related matters
- Represent and manage Career Community programming and activities as assigned. Implement Career Advising responsibilities and tasks into the current academic advising model
- Provide initial intake and advising services to prospective students in the initial steps of enrollment including registration, financial aid, advising, New Student Orientation sessions and other college services
- Work with high school students, high school teachers, counselors, and high school administrators to meet with students in the high school to better prepare students for college and to make them aware of Sinclair College opportunities
- Work closely with other college personnel including academic advisers, Integrated Student Service Center, Financial Aid, faculty and other related departments to ensure effective and efficient student support services
- Ensure an effective case management model is employed; that results increased student completion at Sinclair.
- Carry out other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of successful experience with student services, advising, or related field required
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in student services, student personnel, or related field required
- Must have broad working knowledge of various academic departments, programs, and policies that support student learning and success required
- Strong customer service orientation as demonstrated through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving, and desire to identify and support student success and completion required
- Must be able and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of students and college outreach activities required
