Summary

The Advisor, Global Finance is responsible for managing the financial accounting, reporting and claims processes primarily with Save the Children Association/International (SCA/I). This role will review SCA/I monthly financial information sent, account reconciliations, commodity accounting memos, and liaise with other units for claim processing. This also includes communications and dialogue with counterparts across Save the Children to facilitate efforts for accurate and timely financial information.


What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

General Accounting: SCI (50%)

  • Review and process SCI transactions and claims which includes SCI data feed and related entries, funding grid, humanitarian pooled and other related items. The SCI data feed includes the financial packet from all country offices under SCI.
    • Review clearing of SCI balance sheet accounts including but not limited to local receipts or amounts directly received by SCI, various advances and payables to SCI.
    • Update the general ledger monthly for all expenditure and other accounts related to SCI.

Financial Analysis (20%)

  • Identify and process any necessary adjustments as a result of award analysis.
  • Prepare and present monthly and quarterly reconciliation with SCI, including resolution of reconciling items.
  • Ensure quarterly reconciliation on commodities takes place including resolution of outstanding items with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the submission of supporting documents and analysis for statutory audit for SCI related items.

Standard Operating Procedures (15%)

  • Prepare, update, develop and publish operating procedures for the different aspects of Global finance, including processes linked to other teams.

Training and Technical assistance (TA) (15%)

  • Participate in the development and delivery of trainings to team members and other stakeholders.
  • Advise on grant closeout and support business teams in closeout adjustments for SCI related items.
  • Provide TA to country offices and other stakeholders on an as needed basis.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate the organization in the market.
  • Acts as a resource for other team members; may lead projects with limited risks and resource requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Requires learned knowledge, including USG funding experience and knowledge working in general ledger and financial systems
  • Attention to detail to oversee and manage multiple projects across divisions
  • Prompt/ accurate delivery of information, and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
  • Keeps manager informed of important issues; builds effective relationships within peer workgroup
  • Financial Management and Financial management systems experience
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion on significant matters related to functional area
  • Requires little or no supervision on routine work assignments, but may require supervision to review work progress and results on non-routine work assignments
  • General regulations exist, but incumbent must interpret the regulations. The "what" and "how" are provided, but must always interpret the "how"
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Education background in finance or accounting
  • Experience working in a fast paced and matrixed organization
  • Demonstrated communication skills to collaborate within Save the Children, across the Save the Children Alliance

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
