Starting wage: $15.00 per hour (86-H)


Note: Work hours may vary slightly depending on site location. Typical hours are 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Fridays.


Purpose Statement

The After School Group Leader works with students in after school programs, supervising, supporting, mentoring, monitoring and ensuring that the district’s after school programs are implemented in a service-oriented, safe, fair, and equitable manner.


This position reports to the After School Coordinator.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Current high school seniors may be authorized for this position)
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check
  • Current Utah Department of Health Food Handler’s Permit or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • CPR/First Aid Certificate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced using data-based software
  • Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze and interpret English written and verbal communications
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment; phone, copy and fax machines etc.


Preferred Qualifications

  • College level course work
  • Intermediate level Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Experience with community programs, child development, Individual Education Plans and concepts of learning
  • Experience in a community program environment supporting multiple programs and services
  • Experience providing age appropriate activities, safety practices and procedures, and understanding of the stages of child development
  • Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak and understand


Essential Functions

  • Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  • Administer first aid/CPR to students when necessary.
  • Clean work areas (e.g. gym, computer lab, classrooms, etc.) to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.
  • Communicate and supervise students in a positive and patient manner, being understanding of child development stages.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups of people while maintaining confidentiality and building positive working relationships with employees and stakeholders.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned by the site coordinator to program meet goals and objectives.
  • Participate in trainings, to gain information, build skills and ensure quality student programs.
  • Perform confidential and non-confidential record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) to ensure necessary records maintenance.
  • Prepare and maintain food for students in accordance within Department of Health standards.
  • Provide homework assistance to students in academic areas (e.g. reading, language, math, etc.) and promote good study habits.
  • Receive/release students directly from/to parent or designee to ensure safety and meet district requirements.
  • Supervise students in free time and academic settings (e.g. recess, study tables, field trips, special activities, etc.) to encourage and ensure a safe and positive educational environment
  • Support site coordinator with projects, documentation, lesson planning, etc. to implement site goals
  • Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the
  • Under limited supervision, plan, organize, and facilitate age-appropriate activities for recess, indoor, outdoor, quiet and active programs.
  • Speak, read, write, analyze, understand and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  • As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 50% walking, and 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
