GENERAL FUNCTIONThis is a non-exempt hourly wage position. As scheduled, except for training and staff meetings. Normal work hours are 12:30pm-6:00pm Monday-Friday
KNOW HOW
- At least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must have CPR and First Aid certifications prior to being left alone with children.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be physically capable of lifting a minimum of 40 pounds.
- Must not have any physical or mental condition that would limit them from performing any physical or mental task that was requested of them or assigned to them.
- Be able to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
- Be able to handle confrontational people in a positive and professional manner.
- Be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in orientation to the Early Childhood Center before starting employment.
- Maintain thirty (30) hours of training annually and obtain documentation for trainings
- Demonstrate competency, good judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities.
- Know and impart the YMCA Mission Statement and its Core Values to all children by acting in accordance with the Mission Statement and the Core Values.
- Relate to children with courtesy, respect, acceptance, and patience.
- Recognize and respect the uniqueness and potential of all children, their families, and their cultures.
- Do not abuse, neglect, or exploit children.
- Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to (FPS).
- Know and comply with the minimum standards for child care centers.
- Know which children you are responsible for; name, age, etc.
- Supervise children at all times adjusting appropriately for different abilities of children. This includes responsibility for the ongoing activity of each child, appropriate visual and/or auditory awareness, physical proximity, and knowledge of activity requirements and each child’s needs.
- Ensure children are not out of control.
- Be actively involved with children in a positive manner.
- Work with team teacher to Use Curriculum to foster developmentally appropriate independence in children through planned but flexible activities. Plan, implement, and respond to the needs of children, building programs on children’s interests, talents, and cultures. Weekly plans must be turned in to the Director the Wednesday before the next week.
- Work with team floater to be a success at doing their jobs for you and your children.
- Foster a cooperative rather than a competitive atmosphere.
- Show appreciation for children’s efforts and accomplishments.
- Be free from duties not directly involving the teaching, care, and supervision of children such as:
- Administrative and clerical function that take attention away from the children.
- Meal preparation.
- Janitorial duties, such as mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning restrooms. Sweeping up after an activity or mopping up spills may be necessary for the children’s safety and are not considered janitorial duties. Encourage children to clean up after themselves.
- Set up and take down learning environment. Prepare supplies for activities in advance.
- Reflect the attitudes, image and values consistent with the YMCA program goals and philosophy.
- Follow Personnel Handbook policies of both the YMCA and Early Childhood Center.
- Strictly follow YMCA Code of Ethics
- Work with Child Care Director in adjusting work hours as not to exceed (40) hours in a week.
- Assist Director in various duties when called upon.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $8.50 - $9.00 per hour
