POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the GOAL Line Program Director, the Afterschool Program Supervisor will be responsible for the coordination, supervision, implementation, and development of activity logistics for youth in the afterschool program at DPSCD schools including assisting Y vendors with activities and programming.

They will also serve as the lead contact regarding safety for youth at their assigned sites. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Lead onsite contact for DPSCD school and Y Vendors, and overall program management. • Responsible for onsite logistics • Serve as a role model for all youth participating in the after school program by displaying exemplary behavior at all times. • Assist in providing a meaningful program for participants (not free play).

  • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; attending to the needs of participants at all times. • Welcome parents and participants at all times • Oversee parent and bus pickup and student attendance • Oversee staff and vendor check in • Responsible for file retention of required items, i.e. invoices, attendance sheets and background logs • Develop partner relationships • Assume equal responsibility for general housekeeping tasks. This includes bagging trash, classroom clean up, and snack clean up.
  • Communicate with other staff on a regular basis regarding the care of the participants. • Attend all pre-program training for all counseling staff. • Assist in overall management of the after school program group(s). • Have an understanding and follow all emergency procedures on the site.
  • React kindly and firmly in a positive manner when disciplining children. • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with all coworkers, YMCA staff, YMCA members, program participants and the general public. • Consciously create a climate in the program to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. • Adhere to all regulations in accordance with State laws and requirements.
  • Follow all safety, blood borne, and child abuse prevention guidelines. • Take proper precautions in keeping children safe at all times. • Document incidents and accidents by filling out an FYI for parents, and YMCA incident Report forms, submit them using Origami (YMCA Incident Report software) • Display character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and inclusion at all times. • Responsible for lesson plan development (weekly) and implementation of the weekly plans with a group of children.
  • Directly supervise program youth aides and lead program activities throughout the day. • Assist in monitoring the quantity, quality, appearance, maintenance, and storage of all supplies and equipment needed for program delivery. • Attend all staff meetings and other activities (i.e. family events) as required.
  • Take a leadership role in interacting with youth. • Promote a positive image of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit in the community. • Sound management skills of the various components of the position, including all supervision. • Monitor the degree to which the needs of the day goal line participants, and their families are being met.
  • Directly supervises Classroom Leads. • Attend daily preprogram meeting. • Responsible for attending Weikert Youth Work Methods Workshops training. • Collect (completed) daily attendance, data, and submit them into the Program Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be 18 years of age. • Associates degree or equivalent preferred.

High school diploma with 2 years’ experience working with youth required. • Must be able to provide proper transportation to and from work. • Meet the requirements set forth by the state-licensing agency. Documentation of the following required - DHS clearance prior to starting work, TB skin test within 30 days, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications within 60 days.

Complete Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion training as required. • Must complete successful background screening and drug test for YMCA and all other off-site screenings for partnering organizations.
