Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary: Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs helicopter and airplane airframes in order to ensure airworthiness. Task and responsibility are reviewed by the Federal Aviation Administration during random inspections for compliance with all procedures and regulations. Airframe work includes major and minor inspection, alterations, and repairs. Major components of the airframe are disassembled, repaired, and reassembled including wings, fuselage, empennage, vertical stabilizers, horizontal stabilizers, landing gear, flight controls, instruments, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, mechanical linkages, fuel systems and structural components. Records Maintenance and Inspections in the Aircraft Log Books in order to comply with FAA Regulations and Agency Policies.
Researches Advisories, Airworthiness Directives, manufacturer's technical data and FAA regulatory documents to ensure that equipment, components, repairs, and service are in compliance. Reviews repairs, service, and logbook entries for all work outsourced to other aircraft and component repair facilities. Reviews aircraft airframe and engine logs routinely to ensure all entries are proper and complete.
Cleans aircraft and work area by washing, polishing, vacuuming, and disposing of trash and general clean up. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Assists in projecting expense for major repairs and service of aircraft, equipment and components based on the Manufacturers instruction, Federal Aviation Regulations, and industry standards, historic and future estimated use of each aircraft assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Licensing & Certification: Required – Valid Kansas Driver’s License; FAA Airframe and Power-plant certificate.
Preferred – Aviation Inspectors Certificate with inspection authorization.
Minimum Requirements: Specialized training in aircraft Airframe and Power-plant repair and service. Manufacturer or specialized training in helicopters or turbine engines. Ability to successfully communicate information both orally and in writing. Must be self-starter, self-motivated, task-oriented, willing to learn, and require minimal guidance and/or supervision. 3 years as a licensed Airframe and Powerplant Aviation Technician.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Bending, lifting, and crawling into confined work areas and use of hazardous materials. The technician is exposed to loud noise levels of aircraft. Exposure to weather is a daily routine. Exposure to machinery and equipment with moving parts. Hangar is heated but not air conditioned.
Ability to lift heavy aircraft parts and tools, inspect aircraft and detect visible and/or audible defects when evaluating its condition, crawl into confined work areas, use hazardous chemicals, tolerate extremely loud noise levels, bend, stretch, twist, squat, stoop, push, and pull or reach with body, arms and/or legs. Must submit to an extensive background investigation.
