PURPOSE OF POSITION

Provide in classroom and On-The-Job Maintenance instruction and perform aircraft inspection, maintenance and repair of armament equipment and loading of aviation ordnance on the AH-1Z. The armament technician performs a variety of duties and tasks such as inspecting ammunition, testing aircraft systems, performing preventive maintenance and effecting repairs, loading and fusing ammunition and arming/de-arming aircraft.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform maintenance instruction, co-instruction, and instructional observation.
• Perform shift All Tools Accounted For inventories.
• Attend all hands FOD walk downs.
• Attend all required Maintenance Control meetings.
• Employ appropriate safety precautions, security procedures, and record-keeping techniques for ordnance.
• Perform AH-1Z Ordnance, Safety and Canopy Removal System inspections.
• Perform routine AH-1Z aircraft safety inspections;
• Observe, report, and resolve AH-1Z Aircraft safety hazards.
• Perform AH-1Z Canopy Removal System (CRS) safety inspections.
• Operate and perform operator maintenance on armament weapons support equipment and aircraft armament equipment.
• Operate aircraft Auxiliary Power Unit.
• Perform scheduled maintenance.
• Perform release and control checks, loading, and downloading procedures.
• Load and unload airborne weapons and stores aboard aircraft to include reconfiguration and functional testing of aircraft weapons release and control, missile, and guns systems;
• Remove, maintain, service, install, and load aircraft guns;
• Arm and de-arm aircraft;
• Conduct functional tests of racks, launchers, adapters and electrical components, aircraft armament circuits and maintain them in an operational status by appropriate preventive maintenance;
• Configure or reconfigure assigned aircraft for carriage of any aviation ammunition within the capability of the aircraft by installing or removing racks, launchers, adapters, and electrical components;
• Maintain and operate associated support equipment;
• Conduct functional tests of aircraft armament electrical fusing, firing, and release circuits and maintain them in an operational status
• Apply bore sight procedures and techniques as applicable to aircraft sights and weapons systems.
• Accept aircraft materials from supply system and ensure applicable technical directives have been complied with prior to installation/use on aircraft
• Procure supplies, maintain records, prepare reports, and utilize publications pertinent to aviation ordnance and aircraft armament equipment.
• Perform quality control of work accomplished by the ordnance section on aircraft assigned;
• Prepare and submit unsatisfactory material and equipment reports
• Prepare Conventional Ordnance Deficiency Reports, Explosive Mishap Reports, Technical Publication Deficiency Reports, Missile Fire Reports, Product Quality Deficiency Reports, Missing Lost Stolen/Recovered Ammunition Reports, and Engineering Investigation Requests, when appropriate.
• Observe all pertinent safety precautions in accordance with the applicable publications.
• Ensure appropriate usage and storage of all applicable Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Ensure appropriate usage and storage of Hazardous Material handling and Emergency procedures.
• Follow Hazardous Materials disposal and storage requirements.
• Observe AH-1Z Canopy Removal System (CRS) safety precautions.
• Review Conventional Weapons Loading publications.
• Must be able to work shift schedules as required per Performance Work Statement (PWS).
• Must be able to pass a background check.
• Must be able to climb ladders, raised platforms, and aircraft.
• Must be able to use hand and power tools.
• Must have dexterity to handle small parts.
• Must be able to pass employment physicals.
• Must be able to deploy to support off station exercises and perform other support duties if required.
• Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
