Salary: $49,135 (2023 Salary)

This is a non-competitive position in the Dutchess County Department of Public Works Airport Division.
This position involves responsibility for a variety of semiskilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and
repair of airport buildings, equipment, and grounds. In addition, the incumbent is required to train and
participate in Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting operation and comply with all State and Federal
regulations pertaining to airport operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher-
level employee. An employee in this class may be required to work hours other than in the normal
workweek. Supervision is not a normal function of the class.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Performs building maintenance and repair activities such as painting, masonry, electrical roofing,

plumbing, glazing and carpentry; performs grounds maintenance and repair activities such as mowing

grass, grading earth, patching roadways, and installing signs and aircraft tie downs; performs snow and

ice control activities in accordance with the FAA approved snow and ice plan, including the operation of

snowplows and snow removal equipment and the application of ice melting chemicals and sand; performs

maintenance and assists higher level employees in the repair of motor equipment, power tools and airport

electrical systems; conducts maintenance and operation inspections of grounds, buildings, facilities and

equipment, following established Federal and State guidelines; performs and is responsible for Aircraft

Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) activities including operation of ARFF vehicle, fighting fires, rescue of

persons trapped in aircraft when accompanied by at least one other trained employee or outside fire rescue

personnel, and assisting in rendering emergency first aid treatment; performs and is responsible for day to

day wildlife depredation in accordance with required USDA annual training; patrols airport property,

performs security checks including confronting and addressing suspicious activity and completes all

required inspections; operates a two-way radio, maintaining contact with control tower; attends training

programs and courses as directed; conducts airport inspections and issues orders to reopen airport

following an emergency in the absence of higher authority.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years of paid work experience in building construction or repair, automotive repair, electrical
repair or airport repair, maintenance and fueling.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

1. Possession of a valid class B Commercial Driver License at time of application and to

maintain the position.

2. Possession of New York State Firefighter I (or equivalent) at time of application and to

maintain position.

3. Attend annual FAA approved Specialized Aircraft Firefighting Training to maintain position.

SPECIAL NOTE: Applicants for positions that require driving a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) at

any time will be required to undergo controlled substances and at our discretion, alcohol testing prior to

employment and will be subject to further testing throughout their period of employment. Applicants will

also be asked to sign forms for release of information from previous employers in all cases where driving

a CMV was one of your functions. Failure to sign will prevent this employer from using you as a CMV

driver.

FINGERPRINTING: A fingerprint supported background investigation is required before an

appointment is made to some positions. Pursuant to New York State Executive Law, the Division of

Criminal Justice Services requires that a fee accompany each such request for a search. It is due once a
