MDOT MAA is currently accepting applications for the position of Airport Management Officer I within the Office of Airport Operations at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).

The Airport Management Officer I ensures the safe and efficient operation of all aircraft, airport support equipment, terminal buildings, and other airport property that provide a service to BWIs tenants and the traveling public.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Performing inspections of the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) airfield to ensure compliance with the Airport Certification Manual (ACM) and other Federal, State, Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) and BWI rules and regulations;
• Coordinating, supervising, and exercising on-scene command during emergencies include, but are not limited to, hazardous material incidents, aircraft incidents/accidents, bomb threats, aircraft hijacking, security breaches, public disorders on BWI property, or disruption of BWI services;
• Ensuring the safe and orderly flow of air traffic by coordinating snow removal priorities with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Division of BWI Operations and Maintenance; and
• Inspecting public-use and private-use airports throughout the State of Maryland to ensure compliance with COMAR regulations.

This position is an emergency essential position. All employees designated as emergency essential are required to be available to work during weather, operational, and/or disaster emergency conditions. Furthermore, this position requires work in a 24- hour facility and you must be available to work any shift as required by the operational needs of the MDOT MAA.

This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD

• Equivalent airport/aviation majors include:

1. Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle. Employees must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of an airplane. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess both a Federal Aviation Administration Pilot's Certificate with authorization to operate at least a single-engine land plane, and a valid FAA Airman's Medical Certificate.

3. Employees must obtain a BWI Airfield Operator's Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulation 11.03.01.04, Control of Vehicular Traffic on the Air Operations Area prior to permanent appointment.
