Distinguishing Features of Work

This is a professional airport operations position which exercises a high level of discretion and judgment regarding a wide variety of duties both independently and supervised for all airport operations. The position exercises considerable confidential and independent decision-making in response to difficult situations involving airside, landside and terminal operations. The Airport Operations Manager provides work assignments, instructions, and evaluations through observations, reports, inspections, and discussion. The primary mission of the position is compliance with Title 14, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 139– Certification of Airports, and the Airport Certification Manual.
Examples of Work Performed

• Performs day-time and night-time safety and security inspections and documents discrepancies.
• Conducts security patrols, issuing security challenges and conducting vehicle security inspections.
• Responds to aircraft and other airport emergencies.
• Operates a vehicle on the airfield and in other airport movement areas.
• Communicates with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) - Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT).
• Performs wildlife hazard management through habitat modification, hazing, and lethal reinforcement.
• Responsible for the development and implementation of Airport Standard Operating Procedures, administrative regulations, policies, and training programs.
• Coordinates snow and ice procedures, including condition assessments, electronic runway friction measurement, condition reporting, and planning and coordinating runway and taxiway openings and closures with the ATCT and Airfield Maintenance.
• Plans, initiates and coordinates runway and taxiway closures during emergencies, routine maintenance and construction projects.
• Prepares and disseminates information concerning critical airfield conditions and hazards to the national airspace system via Notice-to-Airmen (NOTAM), and to airlines, tenants, operators, the ATCT and other airport divisions.
• Monitors airport maintenance and construction activity to insure safe operations and compliance with safety plans
• Prepares and distributes written and electronic reports as required.
• Attends pre-construction and construction safety meetings.
• Assists with updating and maintaining airport operations databases, records and files.
• Communicates with tenants, operators, airlines, the ATCT and other airport divisions regarding routine matters and special projects.
• Conducts movement area driver training, Air Operations Area (AOA) training and initial and re-current movement area evaluation and certification checks.
• Completion of work assignments requires operation of various vehicles - pick-up truck, bus and step truck - often on off-road, unimproved surfaces.

Pay: $20.57 - $24.46 per hour
