Galvanize Climate Solutions ("Galvanize") is a recently formed alternative asset manager and SEC-registered investment advisory firm, with a mission to provide the capital, expertise, and partnerships necessary to produce and scale vital and urgent climate solutions. The firm's founders, Kathryn (Katie) Hall and Tom Steyer, have extensive experience in global investments, finance, philanthropy, and politics. Katie Hall is the Founder and Co-Chair of Hall Capital Partners ("HCP"), an independent, SEC-registered investment advisory firm. Founded in 1994, HCP manages over $40bn in investment assets for foundations, endowments, and large pools of family capital. Tom Steyer founded and ran Farallon Capital Management, a multi-strategy global investment business based in San Francisco, from 1986 until 2012. During that period, it grew assets from $6mm to $36bn. Over the same time, Tom was also a partner and Investment Committee member at Hellman & Friedman, a multi-billion dollar private equity firm.

Galvanize Global Equities ("GGE") manages a long-only, concentrated investment portfolio of global equities from all sectors that align with Galvanize's mission to accelerate the development of solutions to climate change.

Opportunity

GGE is seeking an Analyst to work with our New York City-based Portfolio Manager, initially in a directed manner, but developing over time towards more independent idea generation, analysis, and investment debate. The rest of the GGE team is currently based in London.

The team invests across a broad range of industries and the candidate should be enthusiastic about learning the different investment frameworks associated with different types of investments. The candidate must have a thorough command of financial analysis and associated accounting concepts and be able to use these skills to model a prospective investment and potential risks and returns, and to help develop a plan for how to monitor existing investments. While the Analyst will not initially be expected to contribute to the sourcing of new investments, they will have the opportunity to expand their scope of work to include the entire investment process.

Role Summary

The key job responsibilities include:

  • Conduct financial and related data analysis on publicly listed companies and associated entities using investment screening, modelling, and primary research
  • Meet company management teams, brokers and independent research providers, data vendors, etc. in order to deepen and broaden understanding.
  • Generate investment recommendations based on the above, support the maintenance of existing portfolio positions and help produce ad hoc external reports where required
  • Uphold Galvanize's fiduciary obligations and uphold the firm's reputation.
  • Travel when necessary to other offices, research conferences, and company headquarters
  • Promote each of Galvanize's Cultural Values and guiding principles
  • Promote the research of and consider the corporate governance and social responsibility cultures of the companies in which Galvanize invests

Relevant Experience

  • At least two years of experience working within corporate finance, private equity, equity research (buy or sell side), or strategy consulting
  • Bachelor's degree
  • CFA designation preferred
  • The ability to articulate an investment thesis clearly and engage in constructive investment debate.
  • A demonstrable passion for investing and an alignment with the mission of Galvanize to accelerate the transition to a clean energy economy

Able to direct and correct analysis with ease and extract salient points rapidly to hone decision making. Probes rigorously. Salary range (DOE): TBD

  • Estimated base salary range, depending on title and experience in the role: $105,000 - $150,000 per annum
  • Role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus
