Job Description:
The AODA Counselor is a member of our Programs for Change team and facilitates treatment environments for patients to obtain the knowledge and tools necessary to complete all aspects of intensive outpatient, outpatient, and continuing care treatment plans and individual goals of treatment. This includes, but is not limited to the following duties:
- Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Corporate Compliance policies and procedures on a daily basis.
- Embraces and demonstrates the Mission, Vision, and Values of Amery Hospital & Clinic.
- Gathers and analyzes patient information to form meaningful, clear and obtainable treatment goals.
- Coordinates the care and progress of patients in accordance with best practices, safety, and well-being of the patients and group members.
- Delivers information in a fashion that promotes understanding and insight for patients and families.
- Networks within the chemical health industry to develop resources and contacts for appropriate referral of patients.
- Maintains accurate and timely patient records.
- Develops clear treatment plans with updates that reflect patient’s progress and ongoing needs.
- Completes progress notes including progress of patient toward treatment goals, case management and as an item of closure in patient’s final treatment session.
- Reviews and understands all Operating Guidelines of the department and is familiar with policies and procedures, and safety manuals.
- Attends staff meetings and participate in consultations, in-services, and clinical reviews as scheduled.
- Prepares for clinical supervision and documents results of clinical supervision sessions.
- Works toward individual and department goals
- Collaborates with team members regarding patient care and special projects.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the Steps, Traditions, and Principles of self-help groups within the community.
Education: Minimum of Associate’s degree required in Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) specific program. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Two years’ experience as a Treatment Counselor preferred.
Credentials: Wisconsin license as a Substance Abuse Counselor – In Training (SACIT), Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC), or Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC). License as a SAC or CSAC preferred.
Additional Knowledge/Skills/Certifications/ Licenses:
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of a variety of age groups. Must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s needs in relation to age and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures.
- Excellent organization and case management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Computer software (Word, Excel) required.
- Ability to professionally manage a wide range of personalities and clinical presentations.
- Knowledge of and ability to perform the established professional functions of a SAC.
- Knowledge and ability to plan and accomplish curriculum for treatment programs.
- Ability to communicate and consult with other health professionals, referents, patients, families and staff.
