Aquatics Director Job at Levite Jewish Community Center
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Aquatic Director is responsible for supervising Swim Lesson Instructors, Year Round Swim Coach, Preschool Swim Coach, Head Lifeguard, and Aquatics Therapy Instructors. Plus supervision, oversight and administration of the Aquatics programs of the JCC. The Aquatics Director is also responsible for performing any other assignments as required by the Wellness Director/Associate Executive Director/Executive Director
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administrative Duties:
· Recruit/hire/supervise/schedule/train/evaluate and mentor aquatics department employees.
· Respond to members’ concerns and ideas in a timely and appropriate manner.
· Responsible for making sure that the scheduling of swim lessons, lifeguards, Hydrotherapy and swim lessons, and swim team is running smoothly.
· Administer and ensure accuracy of payroll for direct reports.
· Maintain mandatory records and statistics per JCC standards and as directed by management.
· Serve on the Emergency Response Committee.
Program Planning and Development:
· Develop, implement, and oversee aquatic programs that reflect community needs and maintain the JCC’s high standards of quality, safety and caring.
· Oversees, develops, and promotes a wide variety of program offerings including progressive swim lessons, swim team, lifeguard training and others.
· Ensure timely and frequent news releases, flyers, advertising and other forms of publications, both within and outside the agency so as to effectively promote assigned programs.
· Monitor program registrations and participant records and certifications and provide reports to the Wellness Director as requested/directed.
· Assist the Wellness Director with the development of operational and budgetary documentation for budgeting each year and forecasting quarterly
Supervision, Direct and Indirect:
· Hire, train, supervise and evaluate aquatic staff
· Coordinate youth swim/camp programs with Camp Staff.
· Coordinate swim lesson programs
· Conduct in-services for Aquatics (and other) staff quarterly or as needed.
Leadership and Responsibilities:
· Substitute for lifeguards as needed.
· Substitute for swim and program instructors in their absence as needed.
· Additional duties to assist the health and fitness departments will be required.
· Ensure the pool is maintained according to all governing agencies including The Alabama Health Department.
Wellness:
· Weekly one on one staff meetings with Wellness Director
· Wellness weekly meetings
· Logistics weekly meeting
· May be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays
· Maintain a professional image and manner constant with the JCC’s mission and goals.
· Communicate effectively and professionally with members and staff.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree or 5 years minimum of supervisory experience.
· 2+ years in Aquatics required.
· Current American Red Cross WSI, LGI and BLS certifications (or obtain within 4 months of being hired)
· Current CPO certificate (or obtain within 6 months of being hired)
· Proven history of successful pool facility expansion and program growth.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
· Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with staff members as well as members of the community.
· Supervisory skills include planning, budget management, team building, conflict resolution and staff evaluation.
· Ability to work well with teams as well as working independently with moderate to minimal supervision.
· Must be able to work flexible hours in an environment with constant mobility.
· Physical job duties include hands-on water instruction and lifeguarding
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job requires high energy and interaction with staff and members of the community. There is a need for quick decision-making and accountability for actions
Job Conditions
Have flexibility to work different shifts. Frequent interruptions may occur. Maintain a clean cut and professional appearance. Some Holiday work may be required.
