For fun at work, just add water! Make a splash this summer at the Shawnee Municipal Pools! The Aquatics Director position manages the daily operations of the City of Shawnee's aquatic facilities. The incumbent acts as the liaison between the City, administrative staff and aquatic facility patrons. The Aquatics Director assists the Aquatics Specialist in the hiring, training, supervising and evaluating all aquatic facility staff. Ensures compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, and provides a safe environment for staff and patrons. Starting pay for this seasonal, non-exempt position begins at $23.00 per hour (DOQ).
Position Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision: Supervises Pool Managers and all other staff, addresses staff issues and carries out disciplinary actions as needed. Conducts employment evaluations for the Aquatics Specialist.
  • Pool Management: Administers the operations of the City of Shawnee's aquatic facilities, including preparing work schedules/hours, enforcing pool policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and oversees security and maintenance procedures.
  • Training: Provide in-service training for staff on a weekly basis to ensure retention of abilities. Assist with pre-season certification classes.
  • Safety: Conduct regular reviews of potential hazards at the facility and address issues. This includes working with the Aquatics Specialist to develop rotations, areas of patron surveillance, and ensuring that both aquatic facilities are cleaned and well organized. Review and update facility safety procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Emergencies: Provide and implement Emergency Action Plans.
  • Record Keeping: Review reports of each facility's daily operations, including: employee schedules, time sheets, health sanitation, maintenance records, daily attendance logs, in-service training records, water conditions, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or the equivalent. Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation or Education is preferred.
  • Three (3) years of related work experience.

Education can substitute for experience, and experience can substitute for education.

  • Aquatic Facility Operation (AFO) and Certified Pool Operation (CPO) certifications required; or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Possession of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor license; or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities identified in this job posting may also be considered.
Work Schedule:
Job responsibilities require varied shifts with frequent evening and weekend work. Flexibility to work this schedule is a requirement of the position.
