    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Provide special education students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Responsible for planning instruction and adaptation of the general/special education curriculum to accommodate students in the learning process. Function as the case manager for students with individualized education programs (IEPs) and oversee their compliance.

    PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

    • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
    • SV endorsement preferred
    • Must have current MI SpEd endorsement (any) and be willing to obtain SV endorsement if hired
    • Significant experience
    • Extensive knowledge of developmental milestones
    • Related academic endorsements preferred

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Ability to implement and instruct established Grosse Pointe Curriculum by adapting, accommodating and modifying the general education curricula, pedagogy, and learning environments for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
    • Include culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, including historical or other information as to cultures having a significant impact on the world, nation or community.
    • Implement trauma-informed/resiliency based strategies & interventions
    • Ability to Integrate technology with instruction.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized behavior management strategies and plans.
    • Must prepare and implement behavior plans based on functional behavioral assessments.
    • Employ current assessment instruments and approaches, intervention methodologies, strategies, and techniques that are appropriate for students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, linking assessment outcomes to curriculum planning.
    • Assists in assessing curriculum needs
    • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
    • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
    • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
    • Models professional and ethical standards when working with students, parents, peers, and the community.
    • Ensures that student growth and progress on goals and objectives are monitored and adjusted based on individual student unique needs.
    • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
    • Demonstrates use of data to inform lesson planning, instruction, and assessment.
    • Meet professional obligations as a case manager through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating with stakeholders
    • Crisis Prevention Intervention training preferred.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

    • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
    • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
    • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
    • Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
    • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.

    Compensation:

    We offer a competive salary based upon your experience and/or steps earned in previous districts. Steps are according to the GPEA CBA. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance.
