CampHire is recruiting an Assistant Camp Director to join an overnight Jewish summer camp in Wisconsin. The position is based in Lake Delton, WI during the summer (at camp), and Chicago the remainder of the year. Compensation starts at $70,000 plus benefits.
This position leads program development, family engagement, and staff recruitment during the offseason and is responsible for managing day-to-day activities at camp throughout the summer. This role reports to the Camp Director and will manage a team of seasonal staff.
This role provides the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on the culture and community at camp, and be an influential voice in designing programming for the future. Candidates must have residential camp leadership experience and a strong understanding of Jewish values and culture.
What you’ll do
Year Round Activity
- Staff Hiring: Recruit seasonal staff (both international and domestic) to support all departments including cabin counselors, leadership, health staff, and operations.
- Camper Recruitment: Design marketing plans and lead outreach efforts to increase camper enrollment and attract new families to camp.
- Staff Communication: Lead year-round engagement and communications with staff.
- Camper Engagement: Plan and host camper engagement activities throughout the offseason (both virtual & in-person).
- Program Planning: Oversee planning and development of summer and year-round programs as part of the continual process of program design and improvement.
- Onsite Operations: Coordinate alternative use of the property during the off-season (retreats, events etc), and periodically provide onsite support at camp as needed.
- Partnership Development: Partner with agencies to strengthen local/industry relationships and better serve the Jewish community and camp families. Partners include American Camping Association, Foundation for Jewish Camp, JCC Association, Jewish Federation, JCRC, JCFS, Keshet, local synagogues, and educational institutions.
- Event Participation: Participate in agency-wide programs and events.
Seasonal Activity
- Operations: Work with the Camp Director and Associate Director to oversee day-to-day operations and activities at camp.
- People Management: Lead staff orientation program and ongoing management and professional development throughout the summer.
- Programming: Manage a broad range of camper programming including a specialized program for 7th graders and two-week mini sessions offered to campers of all ages.
- Camper Care: Proactively identify and respond to camper needs and assist with challenging camper situations. Help create an environment where campers and parents feel they are safe physically, mentally, and emotionally.
- Family Communication: Provide quality and responsive communication to prospective, new, and returning camper families to ensure the highest level of customer service.

Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of leadership experience in a residential camp setting required
- Experience with program development
- Experience managing a team
- Demonstrated knowledge of Jewish culture and value
- Based in the Midwest within driving distance of Chicago required
