The Assistant Chief Engineer supports Chief Engineer in overseeing all facets of the Maintenance Department regarding the physical plant and resort maintenance to include maintenance, repair, and resort rooms/units, elevators, water and electrical components of building structures. The Assistant Chief Engineer is a support to the head of engineering department and is responsible for department communications, training, and education of DMI values and acts as Chief Engineer capacity on the Chief Engineers days off or vacations.
Follow all company policies and procedures; maintain confidentiality of proprietary information; protect company assets. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards; anticipate and address guests’ service needs; assist individuals with disabilities; thank guests with genuine appreciation. Report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to manager. Speak with others using clear and professional language; answer telephones using appropriate etiquette. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
Specific Responsibilities:
Performs property maintenance, repairs, and installation of building furniture, fixtures and equipment.- Assists with compliance of all OSHA safety guidelines and standards and ADA guidelines and standards.
- Fosters a positive work environment that adheres to DMI principles and values. Implement continued workforce education on maintenance safety and protocols and guest service delivery.
- Assists and conducts team training sessions.
- Monitor and ensure all work is completed in a timely manner and that the quality of the work is up to company standards.
- Ensure all work is inspected without exception and that steps are taken if corrective action is needed due to deficient work.
- Review, on a weekly basis, the completion of work performed for compliance to maintenance and safety standards with Chief Engineer.
- Assist with the supervision of outside contractors performing work on the Resort's premises.
- Perform a regular property inspection with Chief Engineer.
- Make recommendations on both minor and major repairs and/or replacements to any Resort equipment to Chief Engineer.
- Develop and follow through on goal and action plans.
- Plans and assists with PM programs for units to ensure each unit is maintained.
- Ensure compliance with Maintenance Policy and Procedure Manual.
- Interact with Resort's management team to ensure a teamwork approach to the property's management.
- Assists with the company Key Control Program (Assa Abloy Vingcard) is in compliance and maintained at each property.
- Ensure that effective communications with local fire safety and police are maintained.
- Assist in the proper training in coordination with Chief Engineer and other Department Heads for guest safety and security. Conduct pool lift training and re-training.
- Be a source of technical support and consulting for upper management to ensure best practices are always kept.
- Attends meetings as required as backup to Chief Engineer.
- Performs other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management
- Assists with Engineering Staff Schedule.
- Maximize efficiency of the Engineering Staff
- Experience in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, painting, carpentry, irrigation, etc.
- Manage completion of service, repair and punch out of Guest units in a timely manner.
- Above average communication, time management and customer service skills.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful attitude with Guest (our customers) and fellow employees.
- Assist Guest with problems and request to the best of your ability and to the limits of your authority.
- Must be able to accept supervision and work as part of a team towards team goals.
- Perform maintenance on appliances and be able to lift or move them with assistance.
- Closely monitor Maintenance Request and completion of request.
- Able to complete assigned tasks in timely manner.
- Keep engineering shop neat and complete monthly engineering shop inventory and prepare orders for supplies needed.
- Maintain a professional appearance and assure that Subordinate Employees maintain appearance as well.
- Use various hand tools, pressure washer, circular saw, etc.
- Participate in emergency stand-by schedule for evening, weekend & holiday coverage. This position is on-call and is a backup to Chief Engineer on their days off or vacation.
- Ability to read & interpret documents, math ability & reasoning ability.
Position Requirements (Skills/Abilities):
Experience:
Two years of hospitality-related management experience is preferred. Timeshare or Resort management experience highly desirable. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; communicate effectively at all levels; and demonstrate the ability to analyze and resolve problems. Must possess significant computer software program experience, especially Excel and Word.
Education: High School diploma or GED required.
Flexible Scheduling:
Must be able to work Evenings, Weekends and Holidays.
