Pay Rate: $81,967 (Q2) – $89,418 (Mid-point)
Note – salary is dependent on experience, and new employees will typically start around the Q2 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. POSITION PURPOSE
The Assistant Director of Development will be primarily responsible for qualifying prospects and donors for mid-level, major, and planned gifts, managing a caseload of mid-level donors, and working with faculty members to achieve philanthropic support of OHSU’s mission areas of education, research and clinical care.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
60% - Qualification and Discovery
- Qualify donors and prospects from a variety of sources using a high-touch discovery communication model, including calls, emails, and handwritten correspondence.
- Reach out to alumni, patients, current donors, business leaders, and community members to understand their inclination to engage with OHSU philanthropically, with an emphasis on identifying individuals with major and planned giving inclination and capacity.
- Partner closely with Donor Discovery Team colleagues, Annual Giving, Alumni Relations, Advancement Services, and frontline fundraisers to ensure the integrity and efficiency of the discovery process and identify opportunities for improvement; promote information and knowledge exchange, best practices, and efficient process management.
30% - Portfolio management and fundraising activities
- Manage a diverse caseload of mid-level and major gifts prospects composed of alumni, patients, and community and business leaders, with a focus on individuals who give between $10,000 and $50,000.
- In partnership with Leadership Annual Giving Officer, secure matches and leadership gifts for Giving Tuesday, Give Day, and other fundraising campaigns.
- Collaborate with colleagues and Donor Engagement to build and manage a portfolio of donors designated for permanent stewardship, or otherwise requiring low-touch stewardship-focused outreach.
- Establish productive partnerships within assigned departments and programs; provide coaching on philanthropic principles and tactics, and partner with faculty and/or staff to identify potential fundraising opportunities and develop cases for giving.
- Maintain an informed understanding of the science, research and initiatives in assigned programs in order to facilitate communication between faculty and donors.
- Serve as the point of contact for donors proactively reaching out to the Foundation to set up memorial giving opportunities or with giving-related questions.
- Collaborate with internal partners on the development of fundraising materials, including proposals, solicitations, acknowledgments and reports.
10% - Administrative responsibilities
- Enter action reports, attend meetings, and support the operational activities of the Donor Discovery Team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills and Competencies
- Ability to understand and effectively manage complex issues related to medical education and research in a multi-tiered academic medical institution.
- Familiarity with various aspects of development including major gifts, planned gifts, campaigns, annual giving, direct marketing, pipeline development, and volunteer management.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work effectively with many different constituencies, especially philanthropists, physicians, academic community, trustees, and business leaders. Comfort in engaging with people of senior age.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to organize time effectively, establish priorities and manage a large number of tasks simultaneously.
- Sound judgment and a deep to commitment to high professional standards and ethics.
- Strong degree of accountability and ownership of programs, projects, and outcomes.
- Compassionate and culturally-responsive; maintains an ability to work with internal and external individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
- Commitment to accurate and timely record-keeping of activities related to donor outreach.
- High degree of comfort in engaging with people in a variety of ways, including on the phone and in person.
Required Experience:
- 4+ years related experience in a fundraising environment (i.e. frontline fundraising, donor relations, annual giving).
Preferred Experience:
- Previous fundraising experience of closing gifts of $10,000-25,000+
- Knowledge of major gifts, planned gifts, campaigns, annual giving, and alumni relations
- Experience in health care and/or education environment
- Experience with Salesforce or another CRM system
Working Conditions:
- Occasional hours outside of normal work hours for meetings or programs
- Local travel required; must possess valid driver license, reliable and consistent access to vehicle, and appropriate insurance coverage that meets Foundation requirements
