Summary of Position
The Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives executes events and programs tied to engaging alumni, families and friends of Elon University. In partnership with the director of strategic initiatives, the assistant director is responsible for the development and execution of major regional engagement events and volunteer committees with the goal of enhancing Elon’s network of support.
Education Requirements
This position requires a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; a masters degree is a plus but not required.

A minimum of three years of experience, preferably in a higher education setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with large-scale events is required; experience with volunteer management is preferred.

General Purpose of Position
The Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives executes events and programs tied to engaging alumni, families, and friends of Elon University. In partnership with the director of strategic initiatives, the assistant director is responsible for the development and execution of major regional engagement events and volunteer committees with the goal of enhancing Elon’s network of support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. In partnership with the director, provides strategic leadership for key University Advancement initiatives. Reimagines, designs, and implements large-scale regional engagement events and activities for alumni, families, and friends of Elon. Takes a leadership role in launching and advancing the women’s philanthropy initiative for Elon University. Plans and tracks all expenditures related to key programs and events.
2. Provides direct leadership over aspects of campaign-related events, including but not limited to scheduling, in partnership with the president’s office; venue identification and selection; vendor selection, negotiation, and management; creation and implementation of communications timelines; design and management of event registrations; budget management; and direct on-site event leadership.
3. Assists with projects and processes related to the women’s philanthropy initiative, including but not limited to prospect identification and relationship management, initiative research and design, focus group facilitation and management, event communications and logistics, collaboration with external consultant(s), and idea-sharing with staff from other institutions.
4. Conceptualizes and implements communications efforts for key initiatives, including print pieces, emails, social media, student outreach, and other mediums as appropriate. In partnership with Advancement Communications and Campaign Communications, executes a multi-channel communications strategy to keep constituents informed on campaign news and events.
5. In partnership with the director, coordinates colleagues across University Advancement and other divisions to plan and implement various campaign-related initiatives. This includes major and planned giving efforts, donor recognition and stewardship, volunteer board and council activities, and campaign communications.
6. Contributes to the staffing of large-scale University Advancement weekends including move-in, Family Weekend, Homecoming & Reunion Weekend, Commencement, athletics events, and others as appropriate.
7. In partnership with colleagues across University Advancement, develops and executes strategies to increase gifts to Elon University campaigns and strategic initiatives.
8. Provides exceptional customer service to all Elon University constituents, acting with the highest level of professionalism and willingness to assist.
9. Enhances professional development by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, attending appropriate conferences, participating in webinars and professional organizations, building relationships with colleagues at Elon and other institutions, and other activities as appropriate.
10. Other duties as assigned.
