Assistant Director, Worker Retraining Program

The Position

Peninsula College is seeking an outgoing collaborative Assistant Director for Worker Retraining to support the daily activities of the Worker Retraining student aid program and Professional Technical programming. The Assistant Director of Worker Retraining is a critical team member of the College’s Office of Workforce Programs who values equity and inclusion. The position will report to the Associate Dean for Workforce Programs, ensuring consistency in the delivery of excellent service to worker retraining students and faculty, coordinating the professional technical education internship program, supporting faculty with outreach events, assisting with labor market analysis, K-12 partnerships, program development, and daily operations of professional technical programs and outreach.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for directing the College’s worker retraining student aid program
  • Inform students, staff, program participants and/or the public regarding professional technical programs and worker retraining student aid, policies, guidelines, requirements, procedures, and activities
  • Provide assistance to economically disadvantaged students to access worker retraining funding, referrals for career guidance, and information about professional technical career pathways.
  • Actively recruit students through classroom presentations, campus events, community meetings, and local layoff activities
  • Identify, develop, and participate in outreach and recruitment activities to attract and serve workforce eligible students, including WorkSource presentations
  • Assist students with worker retraining applications, select students that meet guidelines, monitor, and provide guidance
  • Develop and submit quarterly, annual and/or special reports and documentation of worker retraining activities, financial assistance, and compliance
  • Assist worker retraining and special population students enrolled in professional technical programs to overcome barriers through referrals for support services within the college and with community partners
  • Support professional technical faculty and staff with outreach events
  • Support professional technical faculty with advisory committee member recruitment
  • Collaborate with faculty to update program guides and approve professional technical class substitutions
  • Coordinate the professional technical internship program
  • Support K-12 partnerships and dual credit articulations
  • Support the development of new programs through employer engagement and labor market analysis
  • Support professional technical faculty with implementation of first year experience curriculum
  • Monitor and renew, as needed, professional technical interagency agreements and memorandums of understanding
  • Support implementation of the College’s equity goals
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Available for in-state travel for trainings and meetings

Required physical abilities, work schedule, and work environment

  • Work will typically be performed in an office setting and may require standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time.
  • May work remotely at times, at discretion of supervisor.
  • Occasional travel is required

Required education or certificates

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum two-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working in a community college or education setting a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential. This includes the ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English and to communicate clearly with native and non-native English speakers.

Employment Terms

  • Full time, Exempt position.
  • Starting annual salary: $51,000 DOE.
  • Excellent benefits package including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; retirement plan options; optional credit union and tax-deferred annuity programs. Peninsula College contributes $1,130 per month towards the cost of the Washington State employee insurance programs. The college also supports professional development.
