Assistant or Associate Professor of Biology

The Department of Natural Sciences at the University of Charleston invites applications for two full-time faculty positions at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor to start August 2023. (Job descriptions are posted separately.)

The Biology Program within the Department of Natural Sciences serves approximately 150 Biology students in the following concentrations: General Biology, Conservation Biology, Biomedical Sciences and Microbiology (available in Fall 2023). The Biology Program also provides Anatomy and Physiology service courses for Heath Science majors. We seek a highly creative and interactive scholar whose research and teaching interests are focused on organismal biology including but not limited to invertebrates or terrestrial vertebrates and conservation biology. The successful candidate should also be able to teach introductory biology or our scientific literature capstone course as part of their normal teaching load. They will be expected to work with the Chair of the Department to expand and grow the Conservation Biology concentration. Candidates must have a PhD in Biology, Zoology, Conservation Biology or related area. Prior college teaching experience is preferred, and good communication skills are essential. This nine-month position is scheduled to begin on August 15, 2023.

Responsibilities for both positions:

• Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate level in the areas listed above.
• Teach courses in face-to face and online formats.
• Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with colleagues.
• Advise students, serve on university committees, maintain currency in the field and duties as prescribed in the UC Faculty Manual.
• Conducting biological research with undergraduates will be encouraged.
