Position Description

The Assistant Principal must be a proven instructional leader knowledgeable about academic scheduling, staffing and management, curriculum oversight, community relations, parent involvement, fiscal management, and facilities oversight. The Assistant Principal must establish and model high professional educator standards. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist with staff selection, assignment, and evaluation
  • Supervise student conduct and discipline including teaching proper behaviors, investigating behavior referrals, assigning consequences, and contacting parents regarding discipline problems
  • Develop a building master schedule
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
  • Conduct frequent mini-observations and face-to-face debriefs with instructional stuff
  • Participate in and help plan staff meetings and staff development activities
  • Work with content teams to help align curriculum and review assessment data
  • Facilitate parent and student involvement in all school programs and supervise evening events
  • Assist in reinforcing a school-wide Positive Behavior Support system
  • Train staff and organize schedule and implementation of state testing


Qualifications

A middle school Assistant Principal in South Lane School District must have a genuine appreciation and understanding of middle school students. The Assistant Principal must be a proven innovative and positive instructional leader at the secondary level with a focus on increasing student achievement and building relationships. The following qualities are necessary for the position:

  • Ability to develop and maintain a positive and constructive administrative style
  • Knowledge about teacher supervision and evaluation, and ability to model good teaching strategies
  • Experience with academic support using a Response to Intervention model
  • Ability to gather, track, analyze, and interpret large amounts of academic and behavioral data (experience with PLC process preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge of Positive Behavior Support at the school and individual level
  • Time management skills to successfully handle a large work load
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Extensive technology skills, particularly the ability to learn new data and cloud-based systems
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and an ability to handle stressful situations
  • Applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid Administrative Certificate for Oregon.

Compensation

The district will provide a competitive salary for a 220-day contract. Placement on salary schedule is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The district provides a generous benefit package in addition to the base salary.
