Duties: The School of Education at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in TESOL. It is our goal to hire four positions as part of a group of exceptional scholar-practitioners with a record of commitment to the academic success of historically marginalized groups of students and engagement in scholarly activity and service at the intersection of education, anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. This position would begin in August 2023.

In addition to the Assisatnt Professor in TESOL, the Depaartment of Teaching and learning will also be seeking applicants for the following tenure track positions. Candidates must apply to each individual position.

Duties:
  • Coordinate, recruit, teach, and advise within the TESOL Education program, a certification program at the graduate level.
  • Cultivate candidates’ field experiences and student teaching by working with K-12 school colleagues in rural, suburban, and urban settings.
  • Collaborate with School of Education colleagues to develop and assess programs.
  • Contribute to the scholarship at the intersections of TESOL Education, equity, justice, and inclusion through research, publications, and presentations at regional, national, and international meetings.
  • Provide service to the department, university, and local community by serving on School of Education and College committees, continuing and establishing partnerships with local school districts, and regularly contributing to curriculum and professional development activities with and for teacher candidates.
Qualifications: Required:
  • An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in TESOL/Bilingual Education or a related field by August 2023. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered.
  • At least three years of prior experience teaching English Learners/Emergent Bilinguals in public and/or private schools in the United States, grades K-12, or equivalent.
  • Hold or have held public school certification in ESOL/ESL or Bilingual Education.
