Overview:
This position reports directly to the Ship Manager supporting either New Construction, commissioned ship PSA’s, or Maintenance and Modernization ship availabilities.

The successful candidate will be a role model of leadership and accountability to Area Superintendents, Assistant Area Superintendents, General Foremen, Operations Supervisors, and support organizations personnel as it relates to project goals.

Primary responsibility will be managing safety, quality, cost and budget for their assigned project. Candidate will also assess manning, schedule and continuous improvement processes to ensure the department is striving to achieve volume, velocity, and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility of the following:
  • Assist the Ships Manager with overall project management during new construction/overhaul.
  • Coordination of tasks involving multiple personnel and organizations in accordance with shipyard policy standards, construction schedules and budget, with first time quality.
  • Interface and effectively communicate with management from Operations, Test Organizations, RADCON, Inspection, Engineering, SUPSHIP Groton, Ship’s Force, RPCO, and NRRO.
  • Proper administration of documents associated with all work, including Test Inspection Reports (TIRs), RIPOUTs, ERs, TGI’s, NCR’s, Work Orders etc.
  • Provide additional oversite to Critical/Controlling path work and high risk evolutions.
  • Administration of overtime assignment for D271 personnel to maximize efficiency and balance work/home life.
  • Provide mentoring to Assistant Area Superintendents and Area Superintendents.
  • Fully capable of acting Act in Ship Manager when required or requested needed.
  • Qualify for and maintain Radiological Controls “J” badge.
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Daily planning and schedule execution of submarine construction efforts on the Groton waterfront
  • Management of Artemis activities and critical/controlling paths with assigned advance planning representative
  • Establishing and achieving weekly work order attainment goals working with production control and construction readiness organizations
  • Identifying and correcting inefficiencies and cost related performance issues on assigned project with program finance assigned representative
This position is primarily 1st shift but will require frequent 2nd shift and 3rd shift support.
Qualifications:
Required:
  • High School diploma or GED
  • 3+ years’ experience as a D271 Area Superintendent, construction program representative or Project Management
  • Ability/willingness to support overtime and off shift hours as required to support Key events
  • Candidate must be from organizations outside of operations (Gildart/Gabriel)
Preferred:
  • Bachelor Degree Preferred
