Assistant SMT Technician/ Assembler (1st shift 7am-3pm) Job at MSA Safety
Overview:
Associates will be hired into a traditional Board Room Production Tech role (HR 130), and will work in SMT on an “as-needed” basis (Step 1 of HR 150). Responsibilities:
This position is primarily responsible for the assembly, testing and repair of Printed Circuit Boards, as well as programming, prototyping, setting-up and operating the SMT and/or Conformal Coating machines. Some troubleshooting and making equipment adjustments are also required to ensure finished product meets specification. Adherence to safety, housekeeping and quality standards as related to production and company objectives is required. In addition, this position is responsible for maintaining production goals through productivity targets and cost containment by eliminating waste.

Production Technician Responsibilities:
- Salary is $20.66 /hr

Assemble and test moderately complex circuit boards and/or sub-assemblies requiring wiring and soldering. Install wires, leads and a variety of thru-hole components

Solder components and leads
-
May be required to pick parts from the warehouse

Troubleshoot minor assembly problems

Perform visual inspection, minor repairs and rework
-
Perform basic calibration using existing test setups or procedures. Use a variety of precision testing and measuring instruments

Set up automated assembly machines, making necessary machine adjustments for start-up and operation
-
Transfer finished boards and sub-assemblies to appropriate work area
-
Complete and maintain relevant paperwork and input information in computer system
Additional SMT Operator Responsibilities:

Assembles printed circuit boards by setting-up and operating SMT and/or Conformal Coating machines

Perform manual inspection of the boards to ensure that they are within specification
-
Programs SMT and/or Conformal Coating Machines using CAD software. Programming also requires knowledge of machine functions in relation to board layout and flow of material. Troubleshoots and debugs errors within programs and machines

Run prototype boards/programs red folder jobs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Demonstrated proficiency in soldering
-
Ability to identify various electronic components
-
Ability to program SMT and/or Conformal Coating machines using CAD software
-
Ability to read and understand drawings, work instructions and test procedures
-
Ability to understand standard units of measure and set-up and interpret results of various measuring devices
-
Ability to perform standard software operations including Excel and SAP
-
Ability to frequently stand in a stationary position and lift, carry, push and pull up to 35 pounds without assistance

Ability to use power and hand tools
-
Strong manual dexterity for use of tools and performing work on small components requiring fine finger manipulation and hand steadiness

Ability to concentrate for prolonged periods of time and regularly perform work that requires magnification

Operate at a level that meets or exceeds quality and productivity standards for the work area

Ability to work in a team environment and to work independently with minimal supervisor

Willingness to work on various product groups and work flexible shifts
-
Ability to effectively communicate with various levels within the organization including training of new associates

Ability to prioritize and organize work.

Ability to wear ANSI Z87 approved safety glasses, steel toe shoes and other PPE as required per Job Safety Analysis
Education and Experience Required:
-
Associate Degree in Electronics or equivalent
-
Past soldering experience
-
Minimum 12 months previous electronics manufacturing or other related experience
Education and Experience Preferred:
-
Computer Programming training
-
Minimum of 12 months experience working in the Boardroom assembling PCBs
-
Previous experience with fluidics and robotics
