POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Teacher in collaboration with the Lead Teacher will create and maintain a safe, fun and thriving age appropriate classroom environment under the general supervision of the Principal/Assistant Principal. Provide direct instruction to students using an established curriculum. Work together as part of a team with the Lead Teacher and other support staff while assisting in classroom management as necessary. Act as Lead Teacher in their absence. Work as a team to build a Christ-centered, intentional classroom for toddler/ preschool and pre-kindergarten age children. Have working knowledge of Creative Curriculum and the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) Licensing Standards for Washington State.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (General overview and may not include all details of responsibilities)
DUTIES
- Support the Principal and Assistant Principal in maintaining a quality program that upholds the standards, goals, and overall mission of the preschool.
- Assist the Lead Teacher and other staff with maintaining a well-functioning, safe classroom, gym and outdoor play and naptime supervision.
- Creatively solve problems and resolve concerns with students by working with other teachers.
- Build a quality and intentional toddler and preschool environment.
- Perform job tasks independently and in a timely manner without direct supervision.
- Know and comply with the State regulations concerning a state licensed preschool and specifically how it impacts job duties.
- Intentionally develop positive relationships with students and their families.
- Assist Lead Teacher in lesson preparation and implementation.
- Maintain flexibility and the ability to change direction quickly in response to a variety of situations that can occur in the classroom.
- Assist Lead Teachers in writing child/classroom observations and preparing progress reports.
- Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers, students and their parents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
CHRIST CENTERED
- Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior
- Ongoing affirmation of alignment with and support of CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
- Demonstrates the values of a CRISTA leader.
EXPERIENCE
One year of experience working with or teaching toddler, preschool age children or early elementary age children or prior experience in children’s ministry.
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
- Washington State required 20 hour basic training or proof of a waiver.
- Child/infant CPR and first aid.
- HIV and blood borne pathogen training.
- Food handlers’ card.
- Proof of negative Tb skin test.
- Proof of MMR vaccination.
- Other certifications as deemed necessary by the state for work in a licensed Early Learning and Early Education facility.
SOFTWARE / EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE
Microsoft Word, Excel, Computer Technology experience, Office 365, Teams, OneNote

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
CDA or working towards one- or two-year degree in Early Childhood education or teaching experience or a higher degree.
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience working with children ages 2.5 - 5 years.
