The Assistant Vehicle Chief Engineer is responsible for planning, directing, and controlling activities within a specific vehicle program. Ensures product planning, design, and development is consistent with established program objectives and company/division needs.
Responsibilities
· Manages vehicle content of new programs working with Program Management, Sales & Marketing developing applicable Bulletins with cross functionally approved business cases.
· Plans, directs, and controls the activities for design, development, and release of specific products within established program objectives.
· Ensures design and release to production within allocated time, cost, and quality objectives of the program.
· Directs the preparation and issuance of initial release documentation to authorize tooling and procurement action for all assigned products.
· Manages program specific variable cost and investment to the approved budget with inputs from Program Management for Scorecard
· Obtains and disseminates new and changing customer requirements and regulations to the Design Engineers, concentrating on adequate funding, appropriate documentation, ensuring cost effectiveness and efficiency in design and integration with the overall programs.
· Manages vehicle, system, and components toward successful completion of the program requirements. Provides regular feedback regarding accomplishments and areas for improvement to team members.
· Assistant Vehicle Chief Engineer owns vehicle level specifications scorecard
· Oversees engineering deliverables pursuant to the Product Delivery Process (PDP). Effectively communicates with project team.
· Attends and contributes to board reviews, launch meetings, and other relevant meetings with customers and suppliers. Conducts Supplier design readiness reviews at gates and launch directly with significant/at risk suppliers.
· Leads, coaches, guides development problem solving to ensure the Engineering top priorities are solved and implemented in a timely way.
· Develop weekly agenda and priorities for weekly technical program review
· Release Incomplete Vehicle Documentation for incomplete vehicles with Homologation/Compliance team
· The Assistant Vehicle Chief Engineer identifies, collects, and escalates the program conflicts for content, attributes, cost, timing, and quality.
· Responsibilities include scorecard management of all activity throughout the vehicle development process including:
o Asst Chief responsible for hands on coordination, coaching, direction of DREs where necessary
o Balanced target recommendations to Chief Engineer for content vs. attributes
o Deep dive of engineering best practices & Key Product Characteristics (KPCs) for critically cascaded system and component targets
o Coordination of system/component validation with vehicle planning by Vehicle Integration
o Hands on with DREs for coaching and development of critical DVP&Rs, DFMEAs, Part print/drawings by DREs
o Alignment of final design of systems and components for Final vehicle sign off
Qualifications:
Basic Requirements/Qualifications (included but not limited to):
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution. Master’s degree in engineering is preferred.
· Experience: Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
· Demonstrated experience with budget planning and conformance, determining program objectives and requirements, anticipating, and solving engineering problems, and developing standards and guidelines for diverse engineering activities
· Ability to communicate effectively with all staff levels, both verbally and in writing. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated successful performance with independent problem solving, presentations, leadership and coordinating and completing multiple tasks within and across departments to meet changing deadlines.
· Proficient skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
