Symetra has an exciting new opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Vice President, Enrollment!

This leadership role is responsible for developing Symetra’s vision and strategy around enrollment and supporting partner integration and technology. The individual hired will build and lead an Enrollment team as well as develop the necessary enrollment capabilities and infrastructure to enable the organization to capitalize on growth, retention, and profitability targets in the benefits division with particular focus on the Voluntary Life, Disability and Supplemental Medical markets. This role will also influence and may support other technical areas to improve sales, retention, and customer experience.

What you’ll do

  • Business Growth & Profitability: Develop, operationalize, and refine Symetra’s overall enrollment vision and strategy to drive growth, retention, and profitability. Partner with business areas to identify and implement key enrollment and technology initiatives to improve sales and participation, efficiency, and customer experience. Serve as lead technical and enrollment expert in RFP discussions and finalist presentations, driving improved close ratio. Ensure enrollment vision and capabilities continue to align with distribution and customer needs.
  • Build & Lead Enrollment Team: Build, lead, and evolve the enrollment team, in conjunction with other functional areas, to meet sales and support needs. Position Symetra for sustainable, scalable growth. Oversee implementation, integration and maintenance of enrollment partners, supporting technology and services. Establish key performance metrics, monitor success criteria, evaluate & adjust partnerships, and direct resources to maximize opportunities.
  • Develop Strategic Roadmap: In close partnership with distribution, develop Symetra’s strategic roadmap of Enrollment partnerships, capabilities, and integrations. Roadmap will include integrations with HRIS platforms (APIs), growth in decision support capabilities, and prioritization of benefit administration partnerships required to meet Symetra’s growth goals.
  • Reporting and Communication: Develop Symetra’s data strategy for enrollment. Ensure that data reporting is built which enables an empirical assessment of various enrollment methods and capabilities. Effectively analyze and communicate enrollment metrics across the organization, including to senior management.

Salary Range: $127,100 - $211,900 plus eligibility for the company annual bonus program target of 20%.


Your skills and experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible work experience in group/voluntary benefits preferably through two of the following: consulting, benefits administration, enrollment firm or insurance carrier.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of insurance industry, market practices, enrollment solutions/capabilities, and leading HRIS platforms (Workday, ADP, etc.).
  • Proven ability to influence organization across a diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence change management.
  • Ability to develop strategic roadmap and associated execution plans.
  • Strong analytical, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven acumen in building a team and maximizing talent.
  • Willingness to travel to support client, broker, or partnership meetings (10-15% travel).
