Key Accountabilities:
- Assist the Category Manager in conceiving, developing, and executing long-range, annual, and seasonal category strategies
- Incorporate overall positioning, target market, pricing, merchandise mix, merchandise sourcing and replenishment, presentation guidelines, advertising, and promotion
- Meet sales growth, margin, volume incentive allowance, and inventory productivity targets for assigned merchandise departments
- Place orders for assigned merchandise departments
- Evaluate the assigned merchandise department’s financial progress and performance goals against budget
- Analyze data and provide input into weekly, monthly, and quarterly variance reports for assigned merchandise departments
- Ongoing sales monitoring of key activities and items as projected in order to maintain appropriate inventory levels
- Create and manage assortments for assigned merchandise departments and store positioning strategies with input from the Category Manager
- Take markdowns as appropriate
- Manage and monitor core items assortment by adding and deleting products appropriately for assigned merchandise departments
- Negotiate with vendors for additional logistical support
- Evaluate and select vendor partners for the assigned merchandise departments
- Negotiate cost, terms, and special volume incentive allowance agreements (co-op advertising, display allowances, and volume rebates)
- Ensure that sourcing decisions maximize category performance while reflecting the full costs of handling, delivering, and selling
- Place orders for assigned merchandise departments
- Maintain inventory replenishment and fill rate to preset targets while achieving turns targets
- Track order process assuring minimal delays; provide follow-up and communication as required
- Maintain budgeted inventory levels in stores
- Maintain direct contact with selected vendors and store managers
- Perform sales analysis and assist projects in assigned merchandise departments
- Input ads for assigned merchandise departments
- Monitor orders and PO’s
- Coordinate advertising and merchandising activities for assigned merchandise departments
- Input into weekly flyer items that achieve sales and margin targets
- Item recommendation for promotional activities
- Meeting ad submission deadlines
- Manage ad penetration and markdown amounts vs. budget
- Proofing ads as required
- Reviewing and auctioning store and depot inventory
- Review weekly depot report as applicable
- Perform item maintenance as required to ensure closed-dated items move through the system in a timely manner as applicable
- Review items not meeting turn criteria and take appropriate action
- Review item aging report and take appropriate action
- Associates degree or equivalent from a 2-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive MS Office Suite experience including above-average knowledge of Excel
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Strong math skills
- Aptitude with successful negotiations
- Strong communication skills both oral and written
- 3 years of retail experience in a supervisory role preferred
- Experience with Profit and Loss statement review, budgeting, and operating statement review experience preferred
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to problem-solve complex issues; know when to escalate
- Impeccable attention to detail

- Ability to negotiate with vendors to meet Category targets and objectives
