An Associate Beverage Designer works under guidance to develop skills and technical knowledge to become a Designer professional. Aids the Beverage Design team under supervision and partners with senior staff producing acceptable solutions for internal and external customers.

In this role, the Associate Designer builds an understanding of functional ingredients, flavoring materials, end uses and customer bases. On a daily basis, the right candidate will be using their laboratory and organoleptic skills to set up and participate in beverage-related tastings. Also, manages assigned projects with supervision from the team leader/manager.

Project Management

  • Understanding key steps in projects from creation to production, with supervision.
  • Taking responsibility for creative project tasks within a project, under supervision.
  • Setting up, conduct, and correlate a variety of basic specific tests and experiments.
  • Exposure and awareness of GRA, legislation restrictions and its impact on development of solutions and recommendations.
  • Refining and familiarizing Flavor and Ingredients portfolios search and selection techniques.
  • Maintaining an understanding of IFF’s safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Understanding how to interpret and use consumer and sensory science data to support projects.
  • Learning to operate and maintaining the Microthermics HTST/UHT processor, with a transition over time to become lead operator.

Innovation & Technology

  • Introduction to IFF Innovation Programs and core technologies.
  • Understanding basic ingredient functionality and flavor performance in different finished products and incorporates technology appropriately.
  • May develop or assist with development of new product and application literature, including technical reports.

Customer Intimacy & Technical Partnership

  • Providing technical support to customers as needed (plant trials, troubleshooting, and training).
  • Developing understanding of competitive landscape in terms of portfolios and market segmentation.
  • Acquiring an understanding of broad business strategy and dynamics.
  • Developing an understanding of local customers, category markets and consumer preferences.
  • Ability to interact with other functions: Production, Quality Control, Sales and Marketing.
  • Builds cross-functional networks locally and regionally.

Job Requirements

Required Experience

  • 1-2 years working experience in industrial food, ingredient, or flavor industry
  • Minimum entry level is a University/College Degree in Food Science and Technology or related disciplines (such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Biology)
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills are necessary

Travel

  • Travel may be required up to 15% of the time.

Workplace

  • This position is considered an Anchor and requires working in the lab/pilot plant for 5 days/week.
  • Must be able to lift 25lbs, unassisted.
