Duties:
Assistant Project Manager: Under general supervision, the Assistant Project Manager participates with project management and CCS staff in the management of construction projects for state owned facilities. Ensures that construction projects are completed according to contract documents and plans, and within budget with a proactive approach. The Assistant Project Manager also performs administrative tasks such as reviewing invoices, estimates, scheduling meetings and other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Construction, Construction Management or a related field from an accredited university, OR an Associate Degree or High School Diploma and five years of experience working in the Project Management Environment.
Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel statewide.
Essential Functions:
- Review and respond to incoming correspondence, such as letters, progress reports, and testing/lab results.
- Acquire & maintain a thorough working knowledge of plans and specifications and other contract documents.
- Review & respond to incoming project documentation.
- Participate in project meetings with the construction team.
- Manage the change order process.
- Participate and monitor the progress of construction activities.
- Ensure construction project is closed out according to established procedures.
- May lead a project under the close direction of the Senior Project Manager
- Participate in and/or conduct training on various industry-related topics; to share knowledge and ensure open lines of communication throughout the organization.
- Facilitate a teamwork environment by mentoring; participating in and/or conducting training on various industry-related topics; to share knowledge and ensures open lines of communication throughout the organization
- Review and obtain approval on all requests for payment.
- Assist in the management of project budgets.
- Record and maintain travel and expense reports, time sheets and other administrative documents according to standard operating procedures.
- Stay within departmental budget.
- Contribute to the planning and development of projects, research information to support other teams and departments as needed.
Competencies:
Strong verbal, written, and analytical skills; excellent customer service, problem resolution, and organizational skills; ability to effectively interact with highly skilled professionals. Must be capable of reading and interpreting contracts and construction drawings and have experience working with Microsoft Office Suites and Project Management/Scheduling Software. Must have the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions and percentages; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Working Conditions:
These position are based in the Atlanta office. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected 50% of the time.
