Star Tribune, the largest and most-trusted news organization in the Midwest, is seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join the Star Tribune Digital team. As an Associate Software Engineer, you will join a team with competitive pay and a great work-life balance. The Star Tribune Digital team is focused on creating a robust technical platform to support our consumer facing applications across Desktop, Mobile and Native Apps which is seen by half a million people every day.
The Associate Software Engineer will support all facets of the digital platform. An ideal candidate for this position would be excited to work in new technologies and have a self-drive to explore and learn. You will be responsible for design, development, documentation, testing, and debugging new and existing software functionality using Agile development practices. Successful candidates in this position should be good at work collaboratively in close engineering situations as part of code reviews and pair programming.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
- Knowledge of scripting language(s)
- Ability to work within a fast-paced agile based team environment
- Able to successfully meet project timelines and deliverables
- Takes initiative and able to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Availability to participate within a weekly on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of web applications and programming languages including:
- PHP programming language and PHP Framework (such as Laravel) experience
- JavaScript, CSS and other front end engineering tools
- API systems and frameworks such as Loopback
Experience
- 0 to 3 years of experience as a Software Engineer in an application development environment
