Job Summary:
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) seeks an accomplished and strategic executive to serve as its next Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). This is an extraordinary opportunity for a talented, energetic, and forward-thinking human resources leader to have a significant impact at one of the country’s leading academic medical centers.
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance, Terri C. Carrothers, the CHRO will have full strategic and operational responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day aspects of human resources. The leader will be charged with accelerating and elevating human resources strategies and practices that focus on excelling employee engagement, recruitment, retention, organizational and performance management, compensation, leadership development, and succession planning.
The CHRO will be an engaging and visible leader who will focus on ensuring the organization is prepared for future workforce needs. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- The successful candidate will possess a minimum of ten years of diverse and progressive relevant human resources leadership for a major HR function in a complex organization. A master's degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, health administration, law, the social sciences or a closely related field is required. However, candidates with a related bachelor’s degree and long-term management-level human resources experience will also be considered. SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or Senior Professional in HR (SPHR) certification is preferred.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of faculty and staff recruitment and retention.
- Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices.
- Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of human resources management and administration, particularly within higher education and across various personnel groups.
- Ability to formulate and implement effective and efficient human resources programs that align with the institutional mission.
- Knowledge of and ability to maximize the efficiency of human resource management systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution, employees throughout the university, other state agencies, federal agencies, and affiliated organizations.
- Ability to build consensus with diverse and competing interest groups; ability to develop support for institution-wide and campus HR programs.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations governing human resources, equal opportunity, affirmative action, and risk management programs.
- Extensive practical knowledge of faculty, exempt and classified personnel systems at the university.
- Ability to evaluate policies and procedures and exercise mature judgment in the interpretation and application of rules and regulations in a university setting.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $275,000 - $325,000.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
