PGH is seeking an Auto Mechanic Assistant to perform preventive maintenance and make routine mechanical repairs on all state-owned vehicles and grounds equipment (i.e. passenger vehicles, trucks, lawn tractors/movers, groundskeeping equipment, etc.). To assure safe and efficient operating conditions and to operate equipment and assist trades workers and grounds department as needed.

This individual should have working knowledge of preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and attachments; basic working knowledge of various trades areas and grounds keeping; working knowledge of tools and equipment used in vehicle and equipment repairs and trades. What is Piedmont Geriatric Hospital?
PGH is a 123-bed, gero-psychiatric hospital, operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). PGH is Virginia’s only state Mental Health Facility solely dedicated to evaluation and treatment of persons aged 65 and older. The goal of care is to facilitate discharge to a less restrictive setting by assisting patients to improve and/or maintain their physical, mental and social functioning.

PGH is located in the picturesque rural setting of the Southside region of Virginia. PGH is just 60 miles from the state capital (Richmond), 65 miles from the Blue Ridge Mountains, and 144 miles from the waves of Virginia Beach.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Some experience in trades areas

Preferred Qualifications
  • Vehicle mechanical and small engine repair certification is preferred.

DBHDS is a healthcare organization and must comply with the federal CMS Omnibus COVID -19 Health Care staff Vaccination Regulation which requires all employees to be vaccinated or receive an exemption.
