Automotive Fleet Vehicle Build Technician Job at Bud Clary Auto
SUMMARY
Entry level technician responsible for performing accessory installation and work as assigned in accordance with dealer and factory standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Upfit new police and government vehicles, install prisoner containment, push bars, seats, dividers, etc.
- Develops strong understanding of company products sold, equipment, requirements, and objectives to ensure that customers are provided high quality products.
- Complete installations in a timely manner, meeting schedule deadlines set by the Department Manager.
- Verify all installation items have been properly installed, and complete work shop orders with accuracy.
- Understand and execute all quality and safety standards regarding installation procedures and best practices, with work performed passing a final quality inspection.
- Perform vehicle check-in and check-out inspections with close attention to detail.
- Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
- Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order
- Adheres to internal procedures and suggests improvements if needed.
- Road test vehicles to quality check work performed
- Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management

- Must have a valid driver license
- Must have a professional appearance
- Must have experience driving both automatic and manual transmissions
- General mechanical skills. Excellent manual dexterity skills as well as patience, creativity, and an eye for detail.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or the equivalent
- ASE certification preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to speak effectively and present information before groups of customers or employees
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Must have the physical ability to move about the service area, and the dealership safely.
- Standing: Must be able to work in a standing position up to eight (8) hours per day in four (4) hour intervals on concrete/asphalt surfaces.
- Sitting: Seating time will vary from 10-20% based on the daily work load.
- Walking: Various tasks will require as much as 100 yards on concrete/asphalt surfaces. 40-60% of the day will require walking in multiple increments.
- Changing Positions: Flexibility is allowed in making frequent position changes (standing, sitting, bending, reaching, and walking) as necessary to physically perform routine tasks.
- Carrying/Lifting: 30-40% of the day will be spent in caring objects that weigh less than 50 lbs. Less than 1% of the day will be spent lifting objects that weigh over 50 lbs. but not more than 60 lbs. These objects may come in various shapes and sizes. If the object is to bulky or heavy, the employee must seek assistance.
- Push/Pulling: Technicians may occasionally have an inoperative vehicle that may need to be pushed into or out of the work area. This function will always be assisted by other Service Employees or Lot Attendant therefore it will not require more than 50 lbs. of torque or effort.
- Bending/Twisting: Certain tasks will require the Technician to bend and/or twist from either; waist, knees, neck, back, or arms (i.e., getting in and out of vehicles, visually inspecting vehicles, etc.).
- Reaching/Handling: All tasks performed by the Technician will require the use of hands and arms (i.e., computer operation, accessing vehicle engine compartment, writing, answering phones, grasping keys and/or articles etc.)
- Crawling/Kneeling: Some crawling and/or kneeling may be necessary to inspect under a vehicle at ground level.
