Job Summary

The AVP, Actuarial Model Validation will be responsible for leading a small team of actuarial staff and working closely with IT developers to maintain our Microsoft Excel based model validation tools for various use cases and product lines. This position will be responsible for ensuring the model validation tools are maintained in an efficient manner as they are essential to our governance process and will require a high level of programming knowledge to be successful. This position will also serve as the expert on AXIS model validation tools for technical support and training.

The AVP, Actuarial Model Validation will report to VP, Actuarial Models. Actuaries at all levels have opportunities to interact with senior leaders across disciplines and functions. This is a leadership position and will manage a team of actuaries, including responsibility for their selection, training and development in conjunction with the Chief Actuary and Human Resources' overall training and staff development plan for all actuaries.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the F&G expert on the Corporate AXIS model validation tools by providing technical support and relevant training to other actuarial users that are internal and/or external to the team
  • Collaborate with various teams to understand required changes to Corporate AXIS models used for pricing, inforce management, ALM, and valuation purposes
  • Oversee updates of the Microsoft Excel validation tools to incorporate the necessary changes using model change management controls and efficient programming algorithms
  • Collaborate with IT to ensure we have appropriate level of resources to meet current priorities
  • Foster a risk aware culture within the team
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation
  • Develop and drive enhancements to create repeatable and scalable processes

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science or related field
  • Minimum ASA; FSA preferred
  • 7-10 years of related actuarial experience
  • Experience with and knowledge of AXIS or similar actuarial modeling software is required
  • Experience with translating actuarial concepts to IT or other technical programmers
  • Fixed Indexed Annuity or Indexed Universal Life experience preferred
  • Experience reporting under and modeling of US statutory and US GAAP reporting preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Highly motivated, self-starter & team player with a high energy level and willingness to aggressively take on responsibility
  • Strong understanding of actuarial projections and interactions between various product features and actuarial calculation results
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, VBA, Python, R, or other programming languages
  • Strong problem-solving skills that include advanced analytical and reasoning abilities to apply actuarial concepts to complex situations
  • Highly organized and disciplined enforcer of model governance protocols
  • Unconditional integrity and commitment to delivering accurate information on schedule
  • Able to fully access deliverable requirements against allocated resources setting priorities and calling on additional resources as required
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to proactively identify issues and to influence key project decisions to achieve desired outcomes
  • Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and is able to operate efficiently in unpredictable and challenging project environments
  • Open and direct communicator who provides clear direction with a results-oriented style
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills (including communicating with and presenting to all levels of management)
