Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position
The Background Investigator is responsible for preparing confidential background investigations of applicants under consideration for hire by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) by gathering, compiling, and analyzing relevant information.

We Require
- High school diploma or GED
- Two years of investigation experience in a legal law or law enforcement environment
- Valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire

- Prior experience conducting background investigations and/or interviews
Job Contributions
- Communicate with applicants via telephone, email, and in person
- Coordinate the distribution and collection of Personal History Statements from candidates
- Thoroughly research, review and analyze candidate’s prior personal and employment history information. Develop and analyze information from interviews with candidates, family members, references, and prior employers
- Develop and analyze relevant candidate information derived and developed from law enforcement systems, public domain databases, social media websites, etc., to check for inconsistencies related to the applicant’s background
- Research criminal justice information and collect pertinent documents, analyze information, and write comprehensive reports for review by Executive Staff
- Conduct additional case and data research as required, including MVD records, driving history, and vital records
- Act as MCAO contact with candidates to obtain information and answer procedural inquiries related to the background investigation process. Perform clerical duties, including typing and filing
- Maintain the confidentiality and security of sensitive employment files
Working Conditions

- Ability to travel to perform certain work functions
- Must be able to obtain Criminal Justice Information System Network Terminal Operator Certification (TOC) Level B within 30 days of hire
