Serves as Lead Barista for Uphill Grind Coffee House on the Lebanon Campus. Coordinates staffing and training of part time baristas, maintains inventory, coordinates marketing, performs cash handling and deposit duties. Creates and maintains a positive and professional atmosphere. Maintains exemplary customer service and demonstrates effective leadership to baristas to ensure customer satisfaction.
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of one-year experience in retail customer service. Supplemental college level courses in business or accounting practices, and/or experience in business management, teaching/training, and food retail is preferred. Requires a food handler’s permit or must obtain within 30 days of employment.

Knowledge and Skills: Requires knowledge of retail practices, operations, policies and procedures, including customer service standards and techniques. Requires operational knowledge of coffee machine or willingness to learn. Requires strong planning, organizational and customer relations skills.

Abilities: Requires the ability to learn quickly and perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively. Must be able to operate coffee machine, personal computers and relevant software with minimal or no supervision. Requires the ability to plan and organize tasks in order to meet timelines and schedules. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and have strong leadership skills to promote and build teamwork. Requires the ability to work closely with other staff and lead them to accomplish the overall objectives of the coffee house. Must be able to work independently and manage time affectively. Requires the ability to work with and serve a diversity of people and members of the public using tact and diplomacy. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Barista experience is preferred.

Supplemental college level courses in business or accounting practices, and/or experience in business management, teaching/training, and food retail is preferred.

Bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Position involves extended periods of standing and lifting light to medium weight objects (10-40 pounds). Involves stooping, crouching, and guiding materials into proper position. Requires good arm, hand and finger dexterity, hand-eye coordination and depth perception to operate the coffee making equipment and the cash register.

Position requires working around hot equipment. Position is fast paced and multi-tasking, requiring a high level of contact with the public. Work is performed in a snack bar environment that is located near various student activities and at times, the area becomes noisy.
Essential Duties:
Serves as lead in reconciliation of daily business paperwork. Deposits receipts to business office. Assesses the revenue and expenditure flow of the coffee house. Makes recommendations to the Campus Store manager and buyers regarding the maximization of revenue. Ensures that pricing is up to date, advertised appropriately and aligned with local competition.

Stocks merchandise and maintains a clean, visually inviting shop. Oversees customer service and product quality control. Keeps a calm, respectful demeanor during high volume and stressful periods. Communicates frequently with Campus Store management on relevant information. Keeps campus store team apprised of information or events requiring action or response.

Follows all operational policies closely, including cash handling, safety, and security procedures. Completes nightly deposits and cash drops to the appropriate locations. Responsible for periodic bank runs for cash exchange.

Assesses customer service needs of the coffee house and implements strategies related to exemplary service. Trains baristas to ensure consist quality of service and products. Investigates customer complaints or conflicts, resolves issues or refers to Campus Store manager as appropriate.

Trains and oversees work of part-time barista’s or other part time staff in accordance with operational and procedural guidelines. Assists in scheduling of staff to work during hours of operation. Monitors work hours and time sheets. Maintains and distributes staffing schedules.

Coordinates regular re-training on safe operating procedures. Maintains current training manuals. Acts as lead communicator to barista staff regarding safety and training procedures.

Takes weekly inventory of supplies and notifies buyers and supervisor of any special needs. Prepares and places weekly orders with vendors as needed. Maintains organized supplies in appropriate containers. Maintains stock/food inventory and condition of coffee machine in accordance with health and safety standards. Schedules coffee cart maintenance during school breaks as needed.

Maintains accurate inventory levels and properly documents damages and/or loss of product. Changes pricing and menu board as directed by the Campus Store manager and buyers.

Serves as main point of contact on room/meeting service and special requests. Plans, organizes, and ensures execution of all special services to ensure customer satisfaction.

Develops and implements marketing strategies for the coffee house upon approval, including coordinating weekly specials, advertising strategies, student events, samples of new products, etc. Serves as lead contact for promotion and execution of Customer Loyalty Program.

Pay periods are the 16th through the 15th of each month. Employees are paid once per month on the last working day of the month.

As a condition of employment, all new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
