Job Title: Behavior Support Liason
Reports To: District Behavior Support Coordinator under the Director of Exceptional Children
Full-Time (11 month)
Position Summary:
This position involves working collaboratively with district and school based teams to support behavior and mental health needs of students. The District Behavior Support Coordinator will provide on-going consultation and coaching support to school teams to determine and implement appropriate behavioral supports and interventions for students experiencing behavioral challenges. The coordinator will also provide training and coaching for school personnel throughout the district in positive behavioral supports and interventions, including Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans.
Certification and Qualifications: One or more of the following required.
- NC Teaching License
- Four year degree & minimum of three years of experience working in mental health; preferably with children/youth with disabilities exhibiting aggressive behavioral and/or social emotional deficits.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Non-violent -Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) trained
Training and Experiences:
- Training and experience working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors that impede their learning or the learning of others
- Training and experience in conducting Functional Behavior Assessments and developing and implementing behavior strategies and interventions
- Tracking and analyzing student data
- Applying problem-solving processes
Responsibilities:
- Under the supervision of the District Behavior Support Coordinator provide coaching, skills training, professional development and other support to teachers and staff working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Work with families to transition successful intervention development between school and home to improve outcomes for students
- Consult with school based teams (i.e. MTSS, IEP, Child Family Support Team (CFST), and other school agency meetings) as necessary or directed by the supervisor.
- Support school administrators, teachers, and other school personnel to foster positive student behavior and provide safe and supportive learning environments.
- Consult with school staff on individual students and classroom management including observing students in the classroom to gain understanding of need.
- Assist in development of Functional Behavior Assessments and carry out Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Participation in professional development opportunities as related to the job description.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all pertinent federal, state, and district regulations and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to, standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting, and walking, including repetitive motions.
- Ability to stand in excess of 6 hours.
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (60 to 100 pounds)
- Must be able to visually, auditorily, and physically monitor student performance and conduct.
- Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Able to complete and become certified in CPI
