BEHAVIORAL HEALTH GENERALIST

A growing agency is looking for a Generalist to join an Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) in Morganton, NC. Our ACT Teams provide high quality services to adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

This position is an optional member of an ACT Team and can provide services to members in multiple areas. Due to this individual not being assigned into a specific required role, they are able to provide any of the services an unlicensed professional can provide to members such as Housing, Vocational, case management and general member interventions.

Education:
If the candidate is a Qualified Professional: they are required to have a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science field and at least two years of experience working with adults who have a mental illness and/or substance abuse diagnosis, or a bachelor’s degree and four years’ experience working in the human services field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. If the employee is an Associate Professional: they are required to have a bachelor’s degree and at least one year experience working with adults who have a mental illness and/or substance abuse diagnosis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
General knowledge regarding principles of Assertive Community Treatment Team and the laws, regulations, and policies that govern these services. Knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely. Possess considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Understanding of Managed Care Processes, contracts, and submission of service authorizations. Ability to be available for crisis situations.

Interpersonal Skills:
Must possess skills in establishing a rapport with members, applying techniques of assessing psychosocial and behavioral aspects of a member’s problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Members being served by the ACT Team. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

Travel Requirements:
Valid Driver’s License and insurance required. Travel will vary depending on the daily schedule for this position. All travel is in the community where the members live and work.


Key Responsibilities:

To assist and support adults in the development of skills, behaviors and responsibilities needed to live, work, learn, recreate, and socialize with others in the community with the greatest possible degree of self-determination and independence
To provide training and assistance with activities of daily living, e.g. shopping, transportation, resource management, exercise, managing household, budgeting, etc.
To provide linkage to the community by focusing on opportunities for employment for individuals served.
To advocate for the rights, acceptance, and inclusion of this population through daily contacts in the community and through increasing and maintaining self-help, family and natural community supports

Requirements:

  • 1 year of experience working with adults who have a mental illness and/or substance abuse issues
  • Employee must be an Associate Professional or Qualified Professional
