BEHAVIORAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN - COUNSELOR II
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our Behavioral Health Technician/Counselor will implement group counseling sessions in an effort to help patients change or improve certain behaviors. He or she will work with patients to reinforce desirable behaviors and minimize or eliminate behaviors that are detrimental. Our clients may include but are not limited to substance abuse patients, mental health patients, and people in recovery. The BHT/Counselor will support the client/patient’s progress toward recovery, encourage positive habits in their daily living skills, a healthy lifestyle, and the highest level of independence possible.
Our morning curriculum is under an established addiction treatment program. The BHT will be responsible for researching, planning and facilitating afternoon group topics covering Life Skills such as Health/Wellness, Parenting, and Financial Management to name a few.
Our BHT/Counselor will be the client/patient’s primary point of contact and will provide support to address the presenting behavioral health needs. It is our goal to build partnerships with our clients/patients to build effective relationships inspiring hope for a positive future.
Responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough assessments and intakes of individuals to identify the strengths and needs of the client/patient to further determine the appropriate therapy/counseling objectives
- Facilitating group and individual counseling sessions- establishing an agenda, setting and maintaining a strength-based meeting environment, staying within timeframes, giving all team participants the opportunity to contribute, holding people accountable for their commitments, and the ability to assist a team in developing a consensus
Expectations:
- Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender, or sexual orientation
- Participate in staff meetings and clinical supervision from our Clinical Director
- Maintain professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and the Policies & Procedures of Proper Paths
- Maintain a professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal and external colleagues, stakeholders, community and business partners
5 years minimum experience required. Bachelor's Degree preferred however candidates with 5 years relevant experience will be considered.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
COVID-19 considerations:
All clients are required to wear a mask, take temperature screening, and sanitize hands upon entering the facility.

- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- Behavioral health: 5 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Driver's License (Preferred)
