Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Benefit Operations Manager!

About the role

In this role, you will implement and oversee field support programs and workflows designed to deliver best-in-class in customer service. You will be responsible for operations in each assigned sales office and the support team for Supplemental Health Life and Disability. In addition, you will lead a team of Regional Service Specialists (RSS) and Service Support Associates (SSA).

What you will do
  • Provide specific written objectives for field sales support teams in offices across the country
  • Support, enhance, and monitor individual performance for each team member
  • Interview, hire and train support staff in regional offices
  • Ensure that proper procedures are in place for all aspects of the Supplemental Health, Life, and Disability under 500 employee service model. This includes advocating for customers on claim related issues and delivering customer related materials for the Supplemental Health, Life, and Disability programs
  • Understand the overall administration of new and current customers
  • Facilitate legal, customer issues and complaints to ensure they're addressed in a timely manner by the appropriate individuals on the field service team and/or other internal contacts
  • Anticipate potential obstacles or trends affecting the industry and recommend solutions
  • Participate in special projects and/or committees with a goal of improving processes
  • Develop positive relationships with key internal and external clients (to include brokers, clients, consultants and internal constituents)
  • Regularly attend customer stewardship meetings, renewal meetings, finalist presentations, etc. as part of the field sales and service team for groups with less than 500 employees
  • Anticipate business needs to facilitate system and workflow improvements and development
  • Forecast the impact of system interfaces with other critical areas of the company, such as Underwriting, Policy Issue, Claims, Finance, and Actuarial

Compensation

Salary Range: $78,900 – $131,500/annual plus eligibility for annual bonus program


Your experience and skills
  • High school diploma Required; College degree preferred
  • Life and Health insurance license required
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Group Supplemental Health, Disability and Absence Management
  • 3+ years of field management/leadership experience preferred – i.e., managing account managers and other field service personnel
  • Travel required and will include but is not limited to Group field offices, customer renewal meetings, finalist presentations, stewardship meetings and industry conference, and corporate office visits to build relationships with internal contacts
  • Technically savvy with prior claims system experience and/or systems development preferred
  • Proven management skills, including training, planning, organizing, researching, problem-solving, decision-making, and budgeting
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Critical thinking and sound business instinct
  • Comfortable communicating at all levels within an organization
