The Billing Specialist is responsible for providing front-line billing support to the organizations staff members, to Ochin Billing Services staff members and patients with billing concerns not resolvable by Ochin Billing Services.
Responsibilities include:
- Billing and patient account management
- Maintain correct insurance information in accounts to ensure that billing information is current
- Update demographic information as needed using various payer websites and other resources
- Resolve reimbursement issues with provider, department manager and other clinical staff
- Verify and calculate sliding scale discount eligibility
- Handle patient complaints and concerns regarding insurance and patient account issues in a sensitive, respectful manner. Refer concerns to coordinator as appropriate
- Reviews various billings from other entities to confirm La Clinica’s responsibility to pay (Lab Corp, Providence Grant, Asante X-ray)
- Assist in developing, implementing and processing a billing compliance education/training program for physician, non-physician providers and new providers
- Assist in developing program/communication mechanism to inform providers and clinical staff regarding new regulatory guidelines for billing and documentation compliance
- Identified problems related to assigned duties and proposes solutions
- Complete rebilling’s as requested / required by insurance rejections
- Maintains confidentiality of account information
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills
- Experience / training in medical billing
- Customer service experience and training
- Skills to intervene and promote reconciliation, compromise and positive outcomes in difficult interactions
- Skilled at using electronic health records as applicable to area of work (EPIC)
- At least 1-year experience working in a Medical/Dental office billing/collection required.
Bilingual/Bi-literate skills in English / Spanish required
Preferred:
- Experience / training in account collections process
- Basic knowledge of adult learning models

SUMMARY
The Billing Specialist is responsible for getting information to compute fees and charges, give discounts, collect and post payments, make phone calls for collections, bill insurance including collections follow-up. The duties and responsibilities outlined below may rotate among team members as supervised by Medical Billing Coordinator.
