Boiler Operator Summary:

American Hardwood Industries, a leading producer of hardwood products and hardwood butcher block counter tops, is seeking an experienced Boiler Operator to work in our Butcher Block/Lumber Yard facility located in Waynesboro, VA. The Boiler Operator will operate and maintain wood fired boilers to assure adequate production of steam for lumber drying and plant heat.This is a full time opportunity with a world class lumber organization.

Boiler Operator Responsibilities:

• Ensures a continuous supply of steam for heating of buildings and the proper operation of Kiln drying operations.
• Monitors and records all specific reading instruments and gauges; including temperatures, pressures, water levels, and fuel usage when applicable.
• Oversee and maintain boiler equipment including monitoring operations and chemicals needed to generate steam for dry kilns.
• Maintaining equipment maintenance such as washing, greasing, etc.
• Address any alarms associated with the boiler operations and respond appropriately.
• Must be able to shut the boiler down in the event of an emergency safely and competently.
• Test emergency power equipment, documents any conditions outside of normal parameters and informs manager of such
• 12 hour shift, including weekends and holidays, 7 pm to 7 am, 3 days one week and 4 days the next.

Boiler Operator Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years boiler experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
  
• Understand boiler operation and maintenance and can communicate across departments about the operations of boiler/kiln
• Basic knowledge of production flow and role the boiler/kiln plays at the facility
• Know environmental regulations associated with kilns, boilers, steam, etc.
• Must possess good language and communicative skills. Will need to be able to comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and present information to managers and employees.
• Extremely reliable and have a superb attendance record
• Must be able to problem solve, observe safety and security and have great dependability skills to perform quality work.
• Must be willing to work in all weather conditions
