Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities, Facilities Management comprises of two departments – Operations and Maintenance as Facilities Planning, Design and Construction. The primary mission is delivering required services, financial oversight and providing a liaison with appropriate Federal, State and local agencies on matters related to planning, constructing, operating and maintaining the physical campus environment. Facilities Management strives to provide a safe, clean, accessible and attractive environment which enhances the abilities of academic and administrative departments to provide a personalized education experience.

Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide institutional custodial services support for The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in the area of building environmental services housekeeping duties. Employees perform a variety of duties in the care and cleaning of classrooms, offices, and other campus buildings. Work is guided by a daily schedule for general assignments. Work is performed subject to close review and inspection, with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a supervisor. Duties may include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies. Work is routine and repetitive in nature and may require strenuous physical exertion. Duties may include performing housekeeping and floor maintenance tasks.

Clean classrooms on a daily basis (Duties: Empty wastebaskets that weigh no more than 35 pounds, clean, and replace liners, dust mop floors, spot mop floors, vacuum chalk rail and/or damp wipe). Clean restrooms on a daily basis to maintain sanitary conditions (Duties: Empty wastebaskets that weigh no more than 35 pounds, sanitize all fixtures, sweep floors, damp mop floors, and resupply expendable dispensers). Clean offices on a daily basis (Duties: Empty wastebaskets that weigh no more than 35 pounds, clean, and replace liners, dust furniture, window ledges, dust mop floors, and vacuum carpet, spot clean carpet). Clean corridors on a daily basis (Duties: Dust mop, spot mop, vacuum carpet, vacuum walk-off mats). Clean stairwells on a daily basis (Duties: Sweep stairs on a daily basis, spot clean walks, and spot mop stairs). Clean elevators on a daily basis (Duties: Dust mop floors, spot mop floors, vacuum carpet, spot clean). Clean outside area on a daily basis (Duties: Check entrance, Empty cigarette urns, sweep entrance walks). Will perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor. Maintain equipment (wipe down and change vacuum cleaner bags). Attend training and safety seminars.

This position is classified as Mandatory Personnel: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
