Description

The Business Development Consultant will join the Hendrix Business Center located in the Slover to support local and regional business development by connecting patrons with resources to support establishment and growth for businesses and non-profit organizations.

Essential Functions

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Connects patrons with resources to aid in establishing or growing small business and non-profit entities. Provides information on relevant City of Norfolk, state, and federal programs and services that may be of interest.
  • Establishes and promotes programs, training, and seminars related to business and non-profit startup, expansion, and compliance.
  • Engages with local chapters of professional organizations to provide networking opportunities related to business and non-profit support.
  • Supports local and regional business development by assisting patrons in the identification, formulation, and development of strategic business plans for various market segments.
  • Works collaboratively with library staff to answer reference inquiries, assist patrons with research, and assist with the operation of computers and equipment.
  • Act as a representative of the facility, providing excellent customer service, facility tours, and responding to general inquiries.
  • Performs financial duties, project management, administrative duties and special projects related to the Hendrix Business Center.

Education/Experience

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, finance, marketing, or economics, and/or equivalent professional experience.

Three years of experience in corporate sales, business development, or a related field.

Additional Preferred Experience:
  • Two years’ experience in business administration, consulting, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), including the ability to teach others.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively with staff, businesses and clients from diverse backgrounds, and diverse members of the general public.
  • Ability to write effectively and perform business calculations.
  • Ability to understand and explain financial statements to patrons.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop presentations and deliver information in a public setting.

Preferred education: Master’s in Business Administration

Additional Information & Requirements

Work Hours: Typical work schedule Tuesday – Saturday 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM; schedule may be adjusted to accommodate events or a change in building hours.

Signing Bonus: This position is eligible for a one-time $5000 sign on bonus.
